Have you ever seen a harvest mouse covered in tulip pollen?

I feel like I can see their noses wiggling.

Le Fleurs du awww

That is the funniest thing I'll read all week.
A fine strong gentle mouse is prowling
As in his bedroom, in the tulips;
A lovely mouse, delicate, sweet, bepollened
He hardly bends the stalks

Suddenly Tiny Tim's voice is earworming me with "Tiptoe thru the tulips...", except raised an extra octave to achieve more of a mouse-like quality.

Does that whole "breeding program" statement make any kind of sense? They're breeding mice, handling them, getting them accustomed to interacting with people and then releasing them into the wild at a nature preserve. First, is that type of mouse an endangered species or something? If it's not, why would you be breeding them for release into the wild? Second, isn't the most common wisdom regarding breeding animals for release is that you limit their interactions with people as much as possible?

Hi Sardonx, I agree with you. These images remind me of those *cute* photos of the frogs who are holding umbrellas and such that have actually been super glued into those positions and after the photo op left to die.

I never knew about the dwergmuis.
After 16 days the young are chased away by the mother who's pregnant again. After two months the young are ready to have children themselves. On average they live 6 months.

They really live life at super speed.
Those tiny animals. Makes me feel for them.

Nanook, that is terrible. Every time I think humans have sunk to the bottom, I find another level of awfulness.

The fact that these are staged shots with captive mice in a studio does make this whole thing way less cool. I didn't see the "more text" link the first time. The fact that the mice are released into the wild rather than cared for to the end of their natural lives is problematic. It's not as bad as super-gluing frogs, but it's still pretty crap.

Welp, I never considered that flower arrangements might harbor mouse pee before. Something to think about the next time I smell the roses, I guess.
