'From the 16th century, a whole host of brilliant women practiced their music within the confines of [secluded convents in Lombardy]. Strong-willed abbess Chiara Margarita Cozzolani believed so much in her nuns' right to compose and make music that she defended them before the archbishop, while Isabella Leonarda wrote everything from motets and psalm settings to sacred concertos.' {radio program, 1hr. 7 pieces by 6 women composing classical music in Lombardy from 16th C to now}

Linked from the ABC Classic Festival of Female Composers page, wherein previous programs about women in music runs into the 2019 Festival, a four day program celebrating women composers in classical music through the ages.
"In celebration of International Women’s Day, ABC Classic will dedicate four days to the music of female composers... from Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 March inclusive, hear 96 hours of music by women from across the past 1000 years."

This is so timely and relevant to my interests, amazing serendipity: I’m teaching first semester music history (antiquity through the Baroque) right now, and much of this is within our timeline. Perfect, my sincere thanks!

This is absolutely marvelous. So much other good stuff there on the festival page - including links to a series called Music in Time - some episodes feature lots of wonderful stuff by women composers.

This just fantastic. Thank you so much!
