I went down the rabbit hole of this guy's videos a year or two back based on a mention in some past FPP. He's fantastic and entertaining and educational, and I highly recommend them! Looking forward to checking out the new ones.

These aren't as focused and polished as the lectures he gave to undergrads for years, but he sure has got a lot fancier video these days. It looks like he had good fun making these. I hope there are lots more.

Nick on the rocks?
Ain't no surprise
He'll show you some layers and he'll tell you no lies.
Got lots to share so you just sit there
And you watch.

Yeah, the longer evening lectures are better, but these are a great tease. I was more on the life sciences end of things in my undergrad, but this guy (and this region) has really made the topic come alive for me.

I recently posted about planning a gravel bike buy, and am now thinking about mapping out a shoulder season adventure to convince my inner miser to pull the trigger on a purchase. I was thinking about Steamboat Rock, but it'd be cool to hit multiple destinations from Nick's lectures in one go. Anyone gone to any of these destinations to suggest a good weekend bikepacking trip?

I think Grand Coulee Dam and Steamboat Rocks and other points along the lake are pretty much within reach of each other. A lot of things out in western WA are pretty far apart, really.

Sorry, not western WA. The other parts of WA that aren't western WA. Those have things being far apart. Hundreds of miles, truly.

hippybear, I thought you were just being limericky, and just realized you were referencing a diamond, Neil that is. Nice - favorited.

Finally finished watching the full hour. He's really good at what he does, and I really like his public television shorts. I'm glad he's doing his thing because we need people like him explaining the world to us. Thanks for posting this!

Oh, yeah! I remember seeing his feature-length video Did Humans Witness the Ice Age Floods? about the (surprise!) HYUGE Ice Age Floods that massively re-shaped much of E. Wash. before emptying through the Columbia River.

Not only does he have a great SOH, he knows his sh*t. (More than, say, Nye or Tyson.) I will probably be binge-watching it for weeks, so thanks ... I guess!
