Fine and Dandy

Zack McLeod Pinsent is making the rounds with a short and sweet BBC video featuring himself, a posh gentleman who has been making his own clothing in Victorian style since he was 14.

Here's a link to the same video but with more images and a writeup on Jezebel. His Instagram - Pinsent Tailoring, which led me down a rabbit hole and turned up this Insta for men's accessories shop in NYC, Fine & Dandy, which it certainly is.

Please let him not be a milkshake duck because just based on this he's so adorable and I love him.

Beau Brummel reincarnated.

He looks a good lot more fun than Beau Brummel.

I admire his passion and willingness to explore it so thoroughly. Not sure what people love so much about fashion but I do respect that it can be high art and obsession worthy given the details, especially in the time period he is focusing on. He must scour history books endlessly. It's hard to believe how dressed up people used to get to go to town, dinner at home even, at least in the shows I've seen. Now all we got are sweat pants and tennis shoes, even at Broadway shows! I can understand his fantasies.

I'm guessing it's a measure of the size of chip on my shoulder that I watched this thinking "Yes, he's charming, and those clothes are amazing, but also wouldn't it be lovely if non-posh/privileged people could have this kind of extraordinary self-confidence too?"

I know this guy! He really knows his stuff, and I can confirm for soren_lorenson that he is, to the best of my knowledge, a very nice man. (I'm basing this on a few friends in common, moving in the same reenactment circles, and a couple of casual chats, so I can't promise, but I've seen no evidence to the contrary).

He would be a great cameo in Black Girl in a Big Dress. Which has a sneak peek posted in February of Season 2!!

For those who want more historic clothing reproduction, I follow Dames A La Mode on Instagram. A few months ago she and a few others went to Venice for a series of balls during Carnival and seeing the dresses in the right environs was really great.
