The title alone made the song spring into my head. An old favorite.

He also has a great Christmas song, too. (That one hits me hard due to the story he tells sometimes being actually very close to my real life shennanigans with a certain woman)

"The only thing that can pick me up, better than a cup of gold...

Wherever I lay my head, that's where I call home."

Damn it now they're all just running together in my mind!

Don't want no abba-zaba is the line that I always loved, because I didn't even KNOW that candy. A quick Google shows that this was Tom Waits at 50 and he seems about the same age today. Nostalgia here for the little VHS lines running along the bottom. Thanks for this, Fizz!

Tom Waits has been 50 since he debuted in 1973.

The only thing lacking in the live recording that's in the original is the rooster (which also appears in "I'll Be Gone"). The man is a maestro with poultry.

I didn't know that I needed Tom Waits yelling through a bull horn over a banjo, but turns out that's exactly what I needed this morning. Thanks!

A few years ago on WWOZ New Orleans, on Easter Sunday, the DJ played a full 2-hour set consisting only of alternating songs about a) Jesus and b) candy. At the very end, he played this.

I love this song and we sometimes break it out for jam nights - usually later in the night after a few drinks so that someone has the guts to try for the Tom Waits voice. I'm still trying to source a rooster, though, so it's a little different than the original.
