Well that doesn't seem very safe.

Deserted? Well, closed for the ad shoot. Multiple sequences and takes (check the sun angles), but impressive tricks.

Pshhhh... Santa did that circuit back in the 70s

It's almost as if his nervous system is hyperstimulated by some brand of caffeinated drink.

I have to assume he's skiing like that to get away from the Abominable Snow Monster.

Ads are frustrating but you have to hand it to Red Bull to still be hammering home the same ad campaign from decades ago and it somehow keeps working

"Redbull gives you wings and our ad execs sit around doing not much at fucking all because this stupid shit sells itself!"

I mean, I can't be the only one who immediately caught the painfully obvious "he's got wings, he's skiing but while flying." Cool, I get the joke ad execs, go back to jerking each other off pls thx.

This was definitely an episode of Scooby Doo.

Ever since I learned about the death rate for base-umping and wingsuiting (I'm just going to go with that as a verb) I always feel uneasy with these exciting but obviously dangerous videos. I always wonder if the presence of the camera encourages people to take more risks and if I am contributing to that process by watching the video... :(

Maybe all drones, but if not, I'm at least as impressed by the camerapersons flying right behind him on some of those shots.

What about doing it in the dark (same guy/sponsor from a couple of years ago), which leads to one of my favourite ski mini-films ever, from 2014, Afterglow: Lightsuit, powder glade, extreme and park skiing in Akleyska in the dead of night.......

I assumed this was all GoPros and tethered drones, but it actually looks like they used real live camerapeople more than I thought. Pretty cool.

base-umping

Is a base-ump the person who referees any unintended contact between the skier and the camera crew?

Drone footage has really changed the game for this kind of video. Nice that they used camera people too! It's hitting all the same stimulants as the Danny MacAskill videos.

This was embarrassing to watch, the worst exhibition of sky-diving I've ever seen. I know Red Bull has a plane, why were they towing that poor man behind a horse? He never got 400' in the air for goodness sake, he could have been hurt.

This is really amazing and just beautiful to see, but I too was hoping for a single continuous run.

No smugly defiant unfurling of a Union Jack parachute as he skis away? Bah.

Here he is going through some trees subjecting poor defenseless trees to drive-by (ski-by?) violence

All I can think is this shouldn't be called Speedriding, but I guess "Frozen Death Kiting" didn't pass the focus group testing.

Now I'm thinking the next installment of the Just Cause video games series needs to have some skis. Or maybe a snowboard.

Isn't drinking a red bull while speedriding redundant?

stevil: "No smugly defiant unfurling of a Union Jack parachute as he skis away? Bah."

My parents were friends with the chap who did that stunt, Rick Sylvester. He also did the controlled fall at the end of "For Your Eyes Only." Nice guy.

I was going to make a joke about how Delluc must have been great at all of LucasArts's Star Wars flying games in the '90s, but it looks like he was born in 1992, so I'll just be over here stretching my creaky old legs and waiting to retire.

Impressive. It really screams for the Union Jack parachute and the James Bond theme though.

The thing about this kind of publicity stunt, it ends one of two ways: you walk away or you die. It results in spectacular footage regardless, so either outcome is a win for the sponsor.

That was fun! I still don't drink Red Bull and that's okay.

you walk away or you die
Nah. Speedflying is risky, especially proximity flying like this, but injuries are way more common than deaths. It's not base. Or smoking.

This is actually how we all commute to work in the upper midwest. Lot harder getting back home when you have to go uphill.

Meh. Would be better with that distinct understated bragadoccio of a Warren Miller narration.

"In France some people think the Concorde is the fastest way to get around. Valentin Delluc prefers a backpack and a parachute."
