A Batfamily Is At Heart A Family

Released on Webtoons, Wayne Family Adventures is a slice of life comic series revolving around Gotham's extended crimefighting family and how they relate to each other.

Being slice-of-life, the focus is less on action and intrigue, and more on character interplay, both comedic and dramatic. As such, the series tends to shine when it shows that even superheroes are people at the end of the day. Some fun strips to start:

The last cookie is serious business.
Sibling rivalry is very real, as is the consequences.
Some competitions are for very high stakes.

Patrick Willems posted a video earlier this year highlighting why Robin, and a family in general, are a critical element of the Batman story. Finding that family is how Batman moves past the tragedy of his origin story to become a fulfilled adult. And therefore why all the "dark" batman movie roles are a stunted manchild version of the character.

This made me so happy.

It's such a shame the Wayne Family Adventures TV show never happened or got cancelled or whatever happened there.

The casting was so good (some stills on IGN here) and it would have been amazing to have such a diverse group playing the Batkids in live action. I imagine we'll never even get to see the footage they shot which is a real shame.

This was my first exposure to Signal and Orphan, and naming new members of the Bat-Family after famous elements of the mythos is just *chef's kiss*.

The idea of superheroes hanging out reminds me of a quote, I don't remember who said it, that goes that the fantasy of Superman is not that he is a man that has unlimited power, but that a man with unlimited power could be a good person.

Is Cassandra still calling herself Orphan in the current DC-continuity Batgirls comic?

I'm not currently up on DC goings-on, but your question had me curious, 1970s Antihero. I would have guessed Black Bat with Stephanie back to either Spoiler or Batgirl (depending on whether Babs was on Oracle duty or on patrol) but it looks like both Steph and Cass are going by Batgirl these days and are heading up book (along with Babs) under that same title. Cass seems to be sporting her Black Bat suit.

With the Batgirls' damaged reputation still on the line and repairs on the Clock Tower well under way, Babs just might have finally found the key to their redemption. Meanwhile, serial killer the Hill Ripper is still on the loose! The girls receive their first major break in the case from an unlikely source—unfortunately for them, the main suspect is among the most enigmatic and dangerous villains in all of Gotham!

I really have no idea what the DC braintrust is thinking. I think Tim and Damian are also sharing the Robin title as well.

I must say I am happy, however, that at least with the Wayne Family webcomics they've gone back to a Bruce that actually cares about people--and especially his kids. I'm so over the angsty, overly psychotic take on the character, but then again, I'm old enough to remember what he was like when he was written as a more balanced human being, and like that version.

A good start is to have Tom King not write the character.

Oh, I wish I could give you a thousand favourites, but sadly I'm only allowed one.
