Corrections turns 50

Seth Meyers’ ‘Corrections’ segment keeps that audience connection going We did fall in love with doing the show without an audience. “Corrections” was the way to hold on to a piece and say, “Hey, we also love that thing that some of you at home loved, and so we’re still going to do this because it’s special 20 minutes a week to remember the closeness we had.” Because part of “Corrections” is, if no one is actually in the room with me here, we’re all in the same room.

With ‘Corrections’, Seth Meyers Feels Like He’s Getting Away With Something
It began as an online-only bit. Sans-audience, Meyers recorded himself in the studio reading YouTube comments that were correcting errors he had made throughout that week’s show — and subsequently blasting the person who left the comment. But quickly, “Corrections” (which releases its 50th edition on Friday) morphed into something of an inside joke between him and his most loyal viewers.

What I Learned Cataloging 'Late Night' with Seth Meyers’ 'Corrections'
I spent the last six months watching, writing (about), graphing, and cataloging Late Night with Seth Meyers and its not-so-mini-series “CORRECTIONS.” The Emmy nominated short-form series began when Meyers returned to the studio — sans audience — as a way to interact with fans; namely, those correcting his show via YouTube comments. A combination of Meyers, his crew, fans, and some amount of pandemic psychosis turned the segment into the best kind of comedy madness, devolving from fixing pronunciation errors to multi-week bits, stories, and gags.

I love Corrections so much. And, I might add, it's probably the most Metafilter thing I know of other than Metafilter. So much grammar, so much pedantry, so much beanplating. :chefskiss:

Corrections is by far the best thing on TV. Although I love Late Night, I watch it mostly so that I understand all the in-jokes on Corrections. It's twisted inside itself on so many levels, I really think it's a work of art, in the purest sense. It exists for no other reason than to refer to itself. It's genius.

The jackals would like a word.
(The long game gags in corrections are epic)

Thank you so much for this, this has provided me with much-needed laughs and delight the last couple days. Also, because I think Isabel Parigi's extensive work should be appreciated and it's otherwise buried in that Pajiba link: her extensive detailing and recapping of the Meyers Cinematic Universe and Corrections episodes.

My top 3:

3. The Eminem lyrics
2. The E.B. White letters
1. "Say what you will about serial killers, they'll write you a letter. Some of you are saying 'kidnappers' - they're always making demands - [nasally whining voice] do this, do that, put it in a suitcase..." (to the best of my recollection)

I recently AirBnB'ed a historic ship captain's house in Maine, and found both The Thornbirds and a book called The Land of Jackals right next to each other. I have to believe a previous guest did this??
