How characteristically, snobbishly NYT of TFA, to be going on about whether the topic of TFA is "true falconry" or not.

By the measure that "plumbing is what plumbers do," it's falconry.

I think this is a really great solution to a weird, tricky problem. On a trip to the Jersey Shore a few years ago, my favorite seagull-related notice read "ONCE THE FOOD IS GIVEN TO YOU, IF A SEAGULL TAKE IT, WILL BE NO REFUND. THE SEAGULLS DON'T WORK FOR US."

If they didn't have a personality, gulls would be beautiful birds. Especially in flight. The aerodynamics and visual design are pure elegance.

Many many many years ago I used to work in a giant train depot.
I actually worked in a small office bit near it, keeping all the records straight of what maintenance was done.

One day I was toiling away at a big stack of inspection reports when I heard a jingling noise from afar that was getting closer and closer. Suddenly a falcon* landed on the desk divider in front of me.
I wasn't really expecting a falcon* at that point, so I was somewhat startled to see a razor beaked betaloned bird of prey sitting within arms reach and peering at me suspiciously with a single beady eye.

In due course a slightly frazzled falconer dashed into the room somewhat relieved to find the falcon* that they use to scare pigeons out of the rafters of the train shed which had flown off unexpectedly.

*(I believe it was actually a Harris Hawk)
