And the OAS isn't making any noises about the election being illegitimate, which is pretty good news when a leftist is elected in Latin America.

So happy to see this!

There were earlier reports that traffic police were intentionally jamming traffic in areas of heavy Lula support, but:
BREAKING 🇧🇷: The Chief Justice of Brazil’s Electoral Court ignores reports of widespread voter suppression to claim that no voter was impeded by the 560 blockades designed and executed by the self-proclaimed Bolsonarista Director General of the Federal Highway Police.

Actually I want to delete this, it was poorly thought out. But I can't without appealing to the overlords can I.

This is great news for Brazil, the environment, Indigenous people, and the whole world.

I don’t see any need to delete this post? It would be factually accurate to say far worse about Bolsonaro than noting that he is far-right and widely reviled, so I don’t think the post breaks site guidelines or anything.

viborg, if you have an issue with an FPP, it's probably best to take it to MetaTalk, and if you have an issue with your account, you should use the contact form.

Well, that was certainly an unexpected turn in the discussion.

From the Guardian article:
At Lula’s celebrations the mood was very different as the veteran leftist vowed to wage war on hunger, racism and to combat environmental destruction which has soared under Bolsonaro. “We will fight for zero deforestation in the Amazon … Brazil and the planet need the Amazon alive.”

“We are going to restart the monitoring and surveillance of the Amazon and combat any kind of illegal activity,” he vowed. “We are not interested in a war over the environment but we are ready to defend it from any threat.”
Previously, a video ad on the importance of this election wrt climate change and more. (Any chance of adding tags to this post?)

This is FANTASTIC news.

YAY BRAZIL!

My congratulations to Lula and everyone who voted for Lula. And everyone who will benefit, regardless of how they voted or where they live.

Thank you so much for posting this, viborg! Best news I've heard all day.

also, viborg 'buttoned' over this?

Not over this, as far as I can tell, but rather over a different FPP which was optimistic about climate change.

I live in a largely Brazilian part of greater Boston, and a week ago I saw Bolsonaro-swag a la Trump on a restaurant and some cars. The Lula supporters appeared to not be culting on him.

Like Trump, Bolsonaro got major support from the sketchy Evangelical churches, and there is one Luzophone church in my city, so I guess I should expect some support for Bolsa.

I'm so glad for Brazil, and the world. The people of good will of Brazil have, by a razor-thin margin, ousted one of the single great dangers to the future of our world. I hope people of all countries, including my own, will follow their example.

Given Bolsa's prior involvement in a military coup, and his noted public nostalgia for the 'Three Stooges' Junta Militar, I'm going to stay worried until Lula is firmly inaugurated and in place at Alvorada.....

Mod note: Apologies, but I'm going to close this up, since the OP wanted it closed as a protest about another post on the site on a totally different topic. That isn't a good way to register disagreement, and disrespects people who have spent time to read and comment in this thread. I've posted a new thread here; please continue commenting there, and sorry again!
