Solar co-ops, microgrids, and coal country climate action

City Climate Corner podcast (with transcripts!) explores how small and mid-sized cities/jurisdictions are tackling climate change and its impacts, such as extreme heat. Episodes (mapped geographically) include Contra Costa, Rotterdam, Flagstaff, Laramie, Fort Collins, Quinault Nation, Columbia (MO), Anchorage (and a special episode on Alaskan youth) and more.

I just joined one of these (solar co-ops) after the mayor sent us a letter. As far as I can tell there's no downside - the solar company provides a fraction of your electricity at a discounted price to town residents, you don't have to install anything, the discount is locked for the next 20 years, and you can cancel at any time.

You do want to be careful though, because I think some of these could be spam sites set up to collect your personal information... I would look for information through your town website or call someone in local government to check in your area before trusting a web search result.
