Prune Juice and vodka! What could go wrong?? Bon Appétit magazine known for it's exquisite taste and innovations in cuisine has a few recipes they'd like you to try....

Your belly full from a heavy traditional Thanksgiving feast? Try switching it up with these innovations from Bon Appétit...

Your vegan Caesar missing that oomph? Have you tried adding store-bought hummus?

Graham cracker crust lost its luster? Have you considered mashing up old fortune cookies instead?

And who wants pigs in a blanket when you can shove a zucchini in it?

That's not all they have to offer! Have a cheap rosé wine? Add jalapeños! If that isn't refreshing enough, consider a pickle juice ice pop!

Some of these recipes people will love, others they will "ew"...but culinary knowledge is power!

My go-to cocktail is a Mango/Pineapple/Passionfruit juice blend together with a botanical forward gin. It’s overly complex and a bit affected. I call it the Adam Driver.

That pickle juice ice pop sounds like it would be heaven when I’m in the throes of migraine-induced nausea. Thanks, Toddles!

These all sound good to me! The prune juice cocktail is interesting with the fernet and lemon juice. Jalapeños sound like a great way to jazz up a cold pink wine you're drinking on a hot day. The hummus is in the Caesar Salad as a stabilizer, although for that I'd consider hot mustard instead. And pickle juice is objectively delicious in any form, why not frozen?

Bring on the weird recipes.

Vegan Caesars are greatly improved by adding clam juice. And a pickled bean.

Tahini, not hummus in the salad. Then throw away the vegan aspirations and add fish sauce and cheese. Otherwise the recipe is good.

"Vegan Caesars are greatly improved by adding clam juice."
Might as well throw in some eggs, anchovies and some steak while you're at it!

That fortune cookie crust sounds fantastic. However, it's a bit of a waste to use folded, individually-wrapped fortune cookies like the article suggests. Flat fortune cookies (also called fortune cookie rounds) would be a much easier way to go.

One customer told me, ‘It’s so intense! I could definitely only have three of these per week!’ I think that’s the perfect amount of Poo Drivers to drink in a week.”

Myself, I think "Duke of Prunes" would be a classier name for the drink.

If you’re looking for bizarre recipes, NPR listeners will know all about Mama Stamberg’s Cranberry Relish (which includes onions, sour cream, and horseradish). I actually made it one year; it was not as bad as it sounds but not as good as she claims. I also made a more traditional cranberry sauce, much to everyone’s relief.

I worked with a guy once who, while we were getting lunch at Whole Foods, picked up a quart of dried plums and proceeded to eat them at his desk over the course of the afternoon, nonchalantly, as though that's a totally normal thing to do. Around 3PM he suddenly stood up and said "I think I've got food poisoning." When I asked if that was perhaps related to the pound or so of prunes he just consumed, he looked at me, deadly serious, and said "What? Prunes? I hate prunes, they mess my stomach up, I never eat them. I had dried plums."

He had a bad time.

Perhaps I shall make a Poo Driver in his honor.

In all seriousness, I can recommend the Chili Cranberry New-Fashioned if you like a spicy cocktail. Using regular cranberry cocktail (the sweet kind) like they suggest is a little too sweet for me-- I like this better with the cranberry-only sour juice.

Though, don't tell the people at Have A Plant dot com about the Poo Driver-- they push prunes and juice like crazy over there and I'm a little afraid of the innovation they'll come up with.

I was prepared for this to be silly, but the inclusion of anchovies in the vegan caesar salad is frankly baffling.

In the next episode, we'll show you how to kick your veggie burger up a notch, quick and easy. All you need is some store bought garlic powder, and also substituting the veggie burger with a beef patty.

How can something be a Caesar if it doesn't have clam juice in it? Without the clam juice, that's just a Bloody Mary?

Clamato is fine, but Walters is divine.

I like mine with pickled asparagus.

I first heard it as an old Rip Taylor joke.

If you read the fine article you'll learn they're talking about Caesar salads, not Caesar cocktails.

Speaking of reading comprehension I missed that this recipe was about vegan Caesar salad. Which is quite a challenge given the lack of eggs. My suggestion for mustard as an emulsifier does not apply and now I understand why it's so much hummus. Does not explain the recommendation of anchovy though. Anchovy is essential to a traditional Caesar salad. Of course it does not belong at all in a vegan dish.

A little light tomfoolery on a Friday aside, I'm not fully on board with the idea that a Bloody Mary is the same as a Vegan Caesar---the brininess and an extra umami kick is the real difference. Bloody Marys always feel like they're missing something to me. Nice drink, but not the same.

A tomato juice base is a Bloody Mary; I don't think it captures the Caesar taste very well. The recipes I've seen for Vegan Caesars actually start with something like V8 instead, and then are seasoned with a good dose vegetarian Worcestershire sauce aka Mushroom Ketchup, more than just a dash. I think you need to go a bit heavier in a Caesar than a Bloody Mary to get the umami, but a V8+mushroom ketchup gets surprisingly close to the clam juice-based original. Closer than a Bloody Mary is, IMO.

You (well, a person, probably not me) could make vegan hard-boiled eggs, but it seems like most of the recipes for vegan Caesar salad sub in avocado, which seems like a better bet.
