Meanwhile, you know what was NOT among the best book covers of 2022?

This was very fun to scroll through!

Did I need more fodder to add to my “to read” list? No, but here we are.

I love this sort of article, wherein artists express admiration for one another's work. There's a great mix of more technical comments and just pure appreciation for one another.

I'm not familiar with the subject but the Elias Canetti reader is quite striking.

I really didn't like many (or any) of the book covers at the top of the list, but I liked a lot of the ones down low.

Jem Calder's Reward System would be on my lists, as would Lisa Taddeo and Gabrielle Zevin. I really love the textual ones -- Rachel Aviv and Brad Zellar. T.C Boyle too. I choose a lot of new library books by cover, so I've read many of these down list.

Another fun text one to add (from 2022, I think) could be Jessie Singer's There Are No Accidents.

Wow. The almost absolute rejection of laser-precise software-guided design. Isn't it amazing how contemporary artistic trends travel slowly around the opposite side of the style circle from contemporary commercial banality, on a path that takes several decades.

(I didn't read any of these books except for Lapvona, and it sucked. Hashtag DNF.)

I liked Lapvona -- it was "fine" and actually pretty enjoyable to read. It ends well. I don't think the cover is very good, though.

(I enjoyed Death In Her Hands (another great cover) much more, and My Year of Rest and Relaxation (another great cover!) even more.)

It's undeniable how ebooks have impacted the volume of books I consume, but I do miss all of the beautiful book covers. It's one thing that does not survive the transition well (at least on my crappy Kindle).
