Sierra Ferrell has been taking her old-timey voice across the country. Down a band member due to Covid in New Jersey. In front of her favorite rowdy singalong crowd in Portland. In her Grand Ole Opry debut.
Wow, how did she manage to spend so much time busking before getting signed? Her voice is arresting.

I looked her up last year because I saw her name in the listings for some local venue, and I remember watching this video and thinking I should check out the show. Unfortunately, I didn't make it, but I did pick up her album on bandcamp and I've been enjoying it.

I'm slightly obsessed with Sierra but I don't think that Opry performance is one of her better ones. She's at her best in small ensembles with musicians she knows well:
With Timbo in the old Dolly Parton / Porter Wagoner number, The Last Thing On My Mind.
Another version of Made Like That, way better than the Opry version.
Gorgeous harmonies on Before I Met You with Hannah Juanita and Chelsea Lovitt.
A cover of Charley Pride's Snakes Crawl at Night with Josie Toney giving it the Django Reinhardt treatment.
Two more performances of the same song, because I love how she interprets it differently every time.
I was lucky enough to be in Nashville for her New Year's Eve Circus Extravaganza, and it was ridiculously fun and enjoyable. If you ever get the opportunity to see her in concert, don't hesitate.

Perhaps even more amazing than the ease with which she plays Snakes in so many different ways, is the fact that she got John Krasinsky ;) to play it (video 3) even though he didn't know it.

I agree that the Opry doesn't seem like the best setting for her. She keeps trying to get a little musical spark going with the fiddler, and he's having none of it, just keeping his head down and playing the notes. Too bad she couldn't have brought along her usual band.
