Turn the 80s Filter up to maximum!

What if we took a bunch of church camp songs and made them as 80s as possible? Armed with electronic drums, samplers, saxophones (and I assume a small army of Keytars) CCM studio musicians Chris Harris and Mark Heimermann turned this into their project Prism. Consisting of four colored albums, all your Sunday School favorites have been given a super modern (for 40 years ago) twist! We begin with Prism - Blue (1986) [30m, full album, weird crossfading of songs, YT Playlist Link]. Opening track here was Jesus Loves Me.

Prism - Yellow (1987) [32m, YT Playlist Link] came next. Pass It On was the lead track here.

Third in line was Prism - Red [35m, YT Playlist Link]. First up this time was Amazing Grace. (The project was getting a bit long in the tooth by now, but don't miss the Prince-influenced Seek Ye First.)

The final release was Prism - Green [39m, YT Playlist Link], perhaps the most interesting Christmas album I've ever encountered. Opening track for this album was Joy To The World.

One bonus track from compilation album Prism - The Hits: Wonderful Words Of Life.

I non-ironically love these albums. I have searched for them here and there across the years, and it seems since my last searching they've all appeared! I'm especially glad to have the Green album back, as it's entirely great.

Sorta ironically I love this in a shit and giggles sort of way and I think my sister will as well.

Overt, earnest Christianity is really making headway in the Vaporwave / 80s-90s kitsch space. I know this is a legit vintage find, but I've been seeing a lot of Jesus speak in my Twitter feed.

Honestly, even today, and non-ironically, this stuff wouldn’t sound out-of-place in the mix of your local K-LOVE radio playlist. And it absolutely would work as god music for little kids.
