Jimi Hendrix Experience started a new song before finishing the old one.

Good time to link up the time Hendrix played with Cream and upstaged Clapton in the process.

“… but Eric was a guitar player, and Jimi was a force of nature.”

This appears on disc two (tracks 17-19) of the 2-CD version of the The Jimi Hendrix Experience - BBC Sessions. The very first time I heard this was in my brother's car, and we both started howling when we heard "We're going to stop playing this rubbish..."

It struck us as hilarious on first listen, but glad this got saved in the way it did.

It's sad how much classic teevee is just gone, taped-over, by people who just either didn't see their employees' work as historically significant, or couldn't afford the cost and acreage needed to actually keep a copy of everything. There was a lot of TV, even way back when. And tapes were huge and heavy and expensive to buy.

On the other side of that scale, it's wonderful that a few peripheral people had the foresight to find or rescue some gems here and there.

And jeez Jimi! This beats the Elvis Costello/SNL thing by a mile in every direction.

Nice!
Always loved this story: it

"Late Monkees star Michael Nesmith was a big fan of Jimi Hendrix from the moment he heard his music — even if fans of his own band didn't share his enthusiasm...

"One time it was me, [Eric] Clapton, [Paul] McCartney and [George] Harrison sitting in a restaurant in England," Nesmith recalled. "This was in the '60s and everybody was psychedelic, we had funny glasses and strange shirts. And John [Lennon] came in, and he had a tape recorder. He says, 'You’ve got to hear this.'

"He played me 'Hey Joe' by Jimi Hendrix, and everybody was just reverential," Nesmith continued. "I mean, the guy had done it.""
