Oh, I love it!

I didn’t check to see if Michael Fry had a YouTube. Otherwise, I would have shared Grandad SpongeBob a while ago.

I was really hope this was going to be Shaggy the dancehall singer talking about wild club promoters in the 90s, but this is also good

Aw that's cute.

Love this guy. Gives me flashbacks to all my older Irish relatives trying to tell a short anecdote ("That reminds me of the time...") before veering into the full life story of every single person they have ever met.

What's with the feels? Wasn't expecting to tear up!

I was expecting Stephen Fry and was misled.

Well, I wish I'd paid heed . . . dang, that got me.

I thought "more moving than you might be expecting" meant a shaky cam or something. Oof.

It sort of relates to the second most popular theory I ever came up with on r/fantheories:

"Scooby Doo is a Great Dane, a large hunting breed that suffers from problems congestive heart problems, leading to their sadder nickname: the Heartbreak breed, as they are affectionate dogs which often live far shorter lives than they should. More so, Scooby has signs of being a traumatized and non-socialized dane, demonstrating great anxiety.

Shaggy knows that. Which is why he spends so much of every Mystery Inc adventure getting Scooby to run, run, run. It's not so much that Shaggy's afraid as it is the absolute best way to get his snack-binging best friend to burn calories and keep his cardio and limb health as best as it can be.

Shaggy runs because he wants his best friend to live as long and as healthily as possible, and that's not going to happen if Scoob is just left in the Mystery Machine happily gorging on scooby snacks. So they're never really running from the monster of the week. They're running from Scooby's mortality."

We just started watching the series, first episode yesterday, and I love it already. It's wise to itself and does not hesitate to play that for gags that are twice as funny as they would be otherwise. Also the characters have character, not just dialogue.

I imagine a haunting as being the only appropriate outcome of that story...

You would have gotten a haunting, too, except for those meddling teens!

Awwwe, that was a wonderful reminiscence. Thanks for that

I'm just surprised this wasn't done by Kevin McAleer and, oh, I dunno, about six to ten times as long.

My god, yes, it truly is EXACTLY like talking to one's Irish grandfather, complete with the complete tonal whiplash where one minute you're talking about dangerous, zany fun from his youth and the next you're wiping away tears. The Pokemon one is also pretty brilliant.

@aramaic The thing about Kevin McAleer is that he's not that much of an exaggeration - counties Fermanagh and Tyrone are full of guys exactly like him.

45+ years since I watched it regularly, and I tend to forget how much l loved, loved, loved that show. What heart it had, and this is such a great tribute to it. Thank you.

I knew I had seen him do other variations on this routine, and it turned out that was on Instagram:
Blue checks
The Fairly Oddparents
The Powerpuff Girls (Mary Angela, Margaret Ann, and wee Tracey)
