New Pack of Endangered Gray Wolves Discovered in California. The pack, which consists of a mother and her four offspring, is now the state’s southernmost wolf group. "California has reached another exciting milestone in gray wolf recovery with the discovery of a new pack in the southern Sierra Nevada," Pamela Flick, California program director for Defenders of Wildlife, says in a statement. "This recently detected group of wolves is at least 200 straight-line miles from the nearest known California pack and demonstrates the species’ amazing ability to disperse long distances and take advantage of the state’s plentiful suitable habitat."

They don’t tell you it was actually a couple of flat packs of Gray Wolves, ordered from a local AAOOWKEA.

I'm glad that OR7 is still contributing to the future of wolves in California, and that they are managing to outbreed asshole ranchers' attempts to murder them.

I have a friend with a small plot of land in the eastern sierras that they camp or park a trailer on. Earlier this year they started seeing some very odd, large animal prints around the land, and when they contacted fish and wildlife got a very excited call back that it was this pack. Cool to finally see some photos!

Gray wolves are the ancestor to every dog you've met, they are monogamous unlike 99% of earth's creatures, and their absence in wildlife throws ecosystems out of whack.

Oh, my post was lost. I have a wolf on my land. His range is obviously much bigger, as the article says, wolves move far and about. But he has a sort of den and a stash of food. I haven't seen him, but most of my neighbours have, and I've seen a video of him, where he goes from a neighbour's land into mine.
He doesn't have a mate. It seems female wolves are less adventurous, and he can't go back to where he was born because of wolf-pack dynamics. He shouldn't, either, because that region is far more afraid of wolves than we are, and they shoot them all the time, even though it is illegal.
I won't say my guy doesn't ever do any harm, but mostly he doesn't. Theres more than enough deer and other wildlife for him to eat.

Ah, I posted my comment on the other wolf thread. Sorry. It's confusing.

It’s an example of how comments migrate to new threads, even across long distances.
