Shaydon Soucy and his wife Sydney

this is a short story written by Thomas Pynchon

also very glad they took the pretty major risk to help the Moose! I would have wanted to pat him too.

The detail of the story that I appreciate the most is the moose licking the guy's hand out of gratitude.

Moose are gigantic frightening creatures, but to have one clearly recognize you could help them out of a bad situation and then to offer gratitude when you're done... actually makes me a bit misty typing it out even though I wasn't feeling that when I started this.

I am choosing to read Never approach moose: officials as "never approach moose officials" (if you ask them for something, they might try to charge you).

If I recall our founding documents correctly, I think that guy just became our new Governor General.

PICTURED: "not a huge moose by any means"

It's easy to forget how big those burly bastards are.

It's just a horse-sized moose.

The way that moose let the scratch his face makes me think that moose is definitely someone’s pet, probably house trained.

I thought everyone in Canada had a pet moose?

Canada mooses are the only animal in the animal kingdom that wants anything to do with Canada gooses.

Wow. I usually think of that spider web netting as being a danger to sparrows, not ginormous animals. I wish people wouldn't use it. But I'm glad the moose is okay.

Yeah, my thought was that moose seemed awfully habituated to humans, but it still takes more nerve than I've got to stand just the other side of chain link fence from even a tame-ish seeming moose. Glad all parties came out okay!
