Good place to plug Kacey Musgraves’ A Very Kacey Christmas as a permanent addition to the list of all-time great Christmas albums alongside the Elvis and Nick Lowe (Quality Street) albums. It’s a great mix of originals and covers including the one in the FPP, and a non-aggravating version of I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas. Great range of moods, great singing, great arrangements. Heavy rotation in this house !

You know... for kids!

It's one of those songs, like Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, and (max 5 seconds) the barking doggos, that instantly take me back to being little and hearing something that I knew was for me, not grownups. Even in the distant dinosaur-filled past there was a lot of "kids" music that we kids knew was made to instruct us, to send a message, or to clean our filthy little minds, not simply to entertain. Also when I was very little I assumed that the voices were from some real small person, like the little people in The Wizard of Oz, only jazzier.
