Researchers hope DNA will unlock the key to saving endangered gum tree from extinction. Sydney Botanic Gardens experts conduct genetic testing to help restore the only population of river red gums east of the Great Dividing Range.

As an American who very much enjoyed learning the song in grade school, I am concerned about the future of kookaburra seating.

I am close to a similar experiment that has planted oaks from various temperate zones in other zones to see how they all might or might not thrive.

I hadnt thought about how the sample trees might pollinate surrounding ones, I need to ask about that!

drowsy, the good news is that Australia has between 700 and 800 different eucalypt species (gum trees), so even if this one goes extinct, the kookaburra will still have a seat. But hopefully we can save the River Red Gums.
