The last Sydney to Hobart yacht race participants have arrived safely in Hobart, including Oli the cat.

The Sydney to Hobart is a boat race that begins on Boxing Day, the 26th of December.

The battle for line honours came down to just 51 seconds, with Law Connect overtaking Andoo Comanche on the river Derwent.

Despite the super maxis battling it out for line honours, the more prestigious prize is the overall winner, calculated after handicap. This year's winner is Tasmanian boat Alive.

The super maxis are impressive... but kinda sorta boring. Don't remember where I saw it now but there was a statistical breakdown of the most successful size boat (...I think adjusted for handicap) and it turned out to be around 50ft - which is still big, but not mind-numbingly so.

Looking for that statistical break-down, I ran across this good description of the two versions of the race: maxi and not-maxi.

I love that the Aussie word for cat is MOGGIE.
