Seth Rogan Loves Pot(tery)

About five years ago, Seth Rogen posted a picture on Instagram of seven rudimentary clay objects with the caption: “So maybe I joined a pottery studio so I could start making my own ashtrays.” Now, he’s taken his love for pottery to the next level by signing up as an executive producer for the competition show The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down. He also appears throughout the series as a guest judge. Seth tells Tom Power what inspired his love of pottery, if he finds it therapeutic, and how the imagery and design around weed paraphernalia has changed since legalization. [31m]

I love his pottery! Basically, I love it when people find new passions and make things.

His weed LP sadly tanked in his native country though.

He should definitely have Johnny Vegas as a guest judge.

Wow, I look forward to watching the competition show with my mother, who is a potter!

Highly recommend the original Great British Pottery Throwdown to any pot(tery) fans.

I hope Seth can squeeze out a few tears of joy a la the lovely Keith Brymer Jones.

We’re hooked on both the British & Canuck versions.

Love Seth. Love that the first technical challenge was an ashtray for your doobie. Guy can work the wheel and his gravelly “hur hur hur” laughter slays. Great stuff.

I'll be real, I would totally buy a Seth Rogan doobie ashtray if it weren't out of my wheelhouse with the exchange rate and shipping.

My wife is into pottery and she made me one of Seth’s doobie trays - it’s really primitive (she’s just started) and it’s perfecto. Lol.

I sometimes try to imagine Seth Rogan having a serious conversation without him laughing. Heheheheh. This interview is the closest to that I have ever seen from him.

At the end of the day, we are all stressed out and want something peaceful and offline to get into. Back to basics - no social media or status, just you and The Thing. Pottery, bread, microbrew, sewing, glass blowing… heck I saw a rap artist just released a meditation album a few weeks ago. I’m totally here for it.

Here’s Rogan giving Architectural Digest a tour of his House Plant HQ, which happens to be a beautiful sun-filled bungalow. It looks like this is where he’s giving this interview as well.

I love that he starts this interview with a dog in his lap.

I just watched the first episode on YouTube and it was just as delightful as expected. That laugh, man.
