Daniels: How We Pulled Off Everything Everywhere All at Once | SXSW 2024

"We should tell you that we've run out of new things to say about Everything Everywhere All At Once, so although we’ll try our best to stay on topic, we'll most likely go on a bunch of tangents about the state of the world, the impending climate crisis, the collapse of consensus truth, the rise of AI, the importance and impossibility of self care, and our collective responsibility as storytellers to confront the issues of our time, because that's probably going to be what's on our mind, but we can't make any promises, but at times we don’t feel qualified to talk about any of that stuff, anyway we hope you enjoy our SXSW keynote!" [1h]

At the beginning of the talk they mention their Film Independent Talk with the same title. How the DANIELS pulled off EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE | 2022 Film Independent Forum [45m] actually IS about how they built their career from nothing to Oscar winning filmmakers.

I'm surprised they presented this year.

I guess, if you really want to get into the weeds on this: The Daniels dissect their Oscar-winning screenplay [Writers Guild Foundation, 1h34m]

I'm surprised they presented this year.

as much as I love the movie and their portfolio of work and anti-Tiger parenting messaging, I'm constantly reminded of the fact that their first choices were to cast Awkwafina and Jackie Chan in EEAO who are both terrible if you're plugged into any kind of leftist politics

the boycott of SXSW due to its being funding by DARPA, the DOD, private defense contractors, etc would require a level of plugged-in-to-human-rights-issues that I just don't think they have

I really enjoyed the talk.

I'm sorry to hear about SXSW, but as this article from Texas Monthly points out, SXSW has been problematic for a while.
