Cadbury Creme Egg Mayo

"Picture a savoury condiment that's so creamy and delectably tangy that you want to dip all your food in it for the rest of your days. Now picture some smart alec coming along and mixing the sweetest food known to humankind into this sauce for a bit of a laugh."

The delightful Cadbury Creme Egg has appeared previously on the blue, even when not initially invoked.

It sounds intriguing. But I don't totally buy it - I mean, I sort of want to try it bit conceptually it sounds potentially sickening but that's because I am not a big mayo fan. Thinking about it makes me wonder why they don't just sell pots of Creme Egg goo, sans chocolate egg.

Mayonnaise from the shops is disgusting. I had 40 years of being confused about mayo, as it was that horrible white slop that comes out of jars - something old white people eat. Then I had to make some as part of a recipe I was working on, and the freshly made stuff was amazingly. Heavenly. Where the Heinz variant was a white goo that smothered your tastebuds, the freshly whipped mayonnaise was a kindly electric shock to your tongue, a tease of zing with a comforting feel.

So I’m not surprised that Heinz and Cadbury has created this frankenfood, as they’ve obviously got zero ability to taste.

God? Forgive for the things we do. And then drop a meteor on whoever came up with the idea of mixing mayo and creme eggs. Seriously. A meteor. Do that and I will believe in You forever.

PS. Make it a big one, but not big enough to take out his/her/their neighbors. They are probably blameless in this matter.

PSS. But if they're not, meteor.

Thanks for listening.

Since the Creme Eggs hijacked much of the Mini Egg discussion recently, maybe we should start talking about how awesome Mini Eggs are here. It's only fair, right?

I kid... maybe.

What if Mini Eggs, but dipped in the creme of the Cadbury Creme Egg...? :-D Oooh, or Scotch (Cadbury Creme) Eggs?

On topic: I don't like Creme Eggs but even if I did, that mayo sounds disgusting.

Yes please, I would so much rather talk about mini-eggs than continue to contemplate this horror. I can't recall the last time four words gave me a full body shudder.

What if (logistical nightmare let alone the subsequent sugar crash but what the hell) Cadbury turduckenegg: mini egg inside mini-creme egg inside chocolate creme egg?

Reminds me of the time they put out Marmite-flavored chocolate, which I did have the misfortune of trying. It did not work. Probably better than this, though.

Oh, this is better than I had pictured--I thought it was an egg with the mayo inside. And you would bite into it. And discover the mayo/creme mixture.

More like, you could buy a jar of the creme, with the mini eggs. I am thinking mini eggs might be slightly too big, perhaps with mini-Mini eggs?

Ok but it's really frustrating that the person writing the article is definitely going to hate the product. Like...when you kick off a review of a very sweet food with "Full disclosure: I detest all sweet foods" I think it's pretty safe to just close the tab?

Like, sheesh, I guess I'm glad she puts her bias out there but it's annoying to read an "I tried this weird food" article by a person who was just never, ever going to like the weird food.

Which brings us to the somewhat obligatory invocation of the Disgusting English Candy Drill

What a weird article! Like, yes, I am sympathetic to the idea that this sounds terrible, but then the author lets us know "Full disclosure: I detest all sweet foods." Ok, maybe you aren't the right person to taste this sweet thing and tell us how it is then? But oh, look, as I keep reading I see she has colleagues join her, and they hate it too. Wait! No they don't! One says it's not good, and one says it makes him sick BEFORE he tries it but then he tries it and likes it and then someone else likes it too and then everyone but our author, who detests all sweet foods, agrees it would be good on toast. So conclusion is it's not good!

What.

I wouldn't call mustard creamy necessarily, but if the OP meant mayonnaise then I'd much rather be forced to eat a crapbury creme egg than a spoonful of mayo. I'll eat both together if needed, but it's not fun watching me eat something I can barely gag down. As for the author, I simply do not understand or want to know the mouth that can stand the disgusting egg crimes of mayo but can't handle sweets.

This may be up there with Pumpkin Spice Hummus as the most ill-advised thing to eat.

An oddly-good mix of sweet, creamy and acidic is Halifax Donair Sauce. This seemingly ungodly mixture of condensed milk, garlic powder and white vinegar - much against expectations - works well. It's sticky af, though. Having sampled it at the source (King of Donair on Quinpool Road), I'm a fan, but I've had some awful knockoffs elsewhere in Canada.

Oh, and for the article author: Heinz and Cadbury did not "pair up". Heinz owns Cadbury.

I mean, it's not unheard of to use mayonnaise in sweet recipes, but Heinz/Cadbury have gone too far.

I find mayo from the jar to be sweet, not savory, already. So I assume this would be cloying. But obviously yes, spread it on something like toast that's meant for sweets, not on bloody chips.

(My guess is that it's not all that bad, but they decided to yuck it up for yuks and clicks.)

I think I already made my opinion known. I'd add nougat as a quality filling in addition to the aforementioned fluff.

Weirdly excessive amounts of sugar already exist in a lot of mass market commercial food.

Did you know that if you can persuade your local McD's to serve you a Big Mac and a chocolate sundae, but with the hot fudge sauce put inside the Big Mac instead of on the soft serve ice cream, it will make almost no difference to the taste of the Big Mac?

Fair. I have (real, with the bag) kewpie in the fridge too. And 6,000ish mustards.

My wife makes mayonaisse for our household, and it is so much better than the storebought stuff, even Duke's and Helman's.

Adding the egg filling to mayo sounds revolting, but if folks are having fun, who am I to object?

Oh, man. I am moving back to Halifax in a couple months and this is one of the things I am so looking forward to having back in my life. The list is like: my parents, my friends, proper donairs, Cora's, all dressed chips, the ocean, socialized healthcare.

Not true. Mondelez owns Cadbury, which is the arm of the old Kraft Inc that didn't become Kraft Foods Group which later merged with Heinz.

Different multinational holding company, if from the same family tree, as it were.

This horrified me. I liked the crème eggs as a kid, but after I turned, what, 20? Maybe? They started to be way too sickly sweet for my adult palate.

Mayo on fries though? Heck yes, something I learned on a Europe trip as a high schooler. I was a Hellman’s fan for decades, but the store near me recently started carrying Duke’s, so I tried it thanks to so many comments from MeFites. At this point if they STOP carrying it I’ll be sad, because it’s hard to find in the upper Midwest, but so, so good.
