Now, put on your headphone and close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. Good! Now, visualize with me.

Pretend you are on top of a building. A tall, tall building. An apartment building. Keep your eyes closed. Now imagine yourself drifting down, down, down. Are you on the floor yet? Don't let that stop you. Imagine yourself melting through the floor. Melt, melt through the floor. Good.

Now, look around and imagine where you might be. Maybe it's someone's apartment. Is somebody there? Let's invite them to meditate with us. Good. Let's drift lower, through another floor. Maybe it's another apartment. Maybe there's a whole family there! That's fine. They'll meditate with us, too. Let's imagine ourselves drifting down, down, down. Down through the floor.

What's down here? Why, there's a whole bunch of people. They're meditating too! We can join them. We are all meditating now, together. Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. What's that gentle tapping at the door? It's the police, and they are asking to meditate with us. The police can meditate with us, because we are all calm, and this is the path of acceptance.

Now let yourself drift off to sleep, with all these new friends we have made. Doesn't it feel nice to sleep with friends? Good night.

(In all seriousness though this is good; I was stuck in Penn Station this morning listening to the first meditation and it was excellent.)

I watched his interview on the Jennifer Hudson show about this album and it was lovely. It sounded like it helped him in his personal journey and now he wanted to share with others. I love it, I love genre swapping, why not? I’d like to hear more meditation content from more diverse groups including people of color. I think it’s an important part of “Buddhism moving west” - for it to be learned and taught by the western people. In my circles it skews 1) old white guy went east learned Tibetan studied with the yogis and now teach it, or 2) middle aged white woman who 2a) went west herself 2b) learned from #1. We are now in recent years just starting to hear from people who are more forging their own paths (sort of - it all stems from ancient wisdom traditions), but newer generations are much more western in their styling, teaching, language in a way that that is less dogmatic / hindered by tradition and thus makes it so much clearer to understand and experience.

On that note - Shawn Moore. I love the sound of his voice - soothing without that put-on NPR “I’m compassionate and calm” voice.

So I've been leaning into this since I posted it, joining Lil Jon every morning for 10 minutes. Not all topics relate to me, but I'm working through them regardless as I think there's some value even in the ones that don't resonate absolutely.

I've bounced off mediation at least a dozen times in my life, including self-directed attempts, silent, guided, music mediation, etc. So far this is sticking!

My hope is the novelty of it will keep me into it long enough that it'll become more of a morning habit, then I can branch out into trying other things. But these are -- through the lens of a non-practitioner -- good at getting me into it and sticking with it.
