Dad Baby is an episode from season two of Bluey, the Australian children’s cartoon, which Disney has refused to make available for streaming, has been uploaded in full to the official Bluey YouTube channel. If you are unfamiliar with the hijinks of the Heeler family, you can watch a selection of episodes on YouTube, either as one long compilation or individually: posted by Kattullus (39 comments total) 18 users marked this as a favorite

My older kids watched my son be born in the birthing tub in our living room! Can't wait to watch dad baby with them.

Oookay ... uh, why? I watched it - seems pretty innocuous to me, so WT ... heck, Disney?

I am curious - did Disney nix the episode due to treating birth as a reality instead of the stock delivering the baby, or was it specifically due to DAD being the one giving birth?

According to the article in the "Disney has refused..." link, Disney isn't saying but "treating birth as a reality" is very likely the reason. Also from that article:

Is “Dad Baby” considered sex education?

In today's America? Sadly yes.

From the Polygon link, the episode also includes the phrase 'pregnant people,' which, um...

Yeah, that's completely harmless. FFS Disney.

Also, Lucky's Dad deserves a lot more credit than he gets for always going with it when the Heelers drag him into their weird shenanigans.

In other news, my 13-year-old has us watching Owl House on Disney+. I went into this pretty skeptical. It's a series, aimed at 13-year-olds, set in a fantasy world that reminds me of some superior shows like Adventure Time, Kipo, Steven Universe, etc etc etc. At first my vibe from Owl House was that it seemed a bit derivative and the humor especially was kind of formulaic like you might expect from Disney.

Well, about halfway into season 2, I'm warming up to Owl House quite a bit. I think the themes are getting more interesting. But most relevant to our topic here, it's now streaming all kinds of LGBTQ all over the place, with no apologies and no dancing around the bush. Like Steven Universe was mostly pretty coy about this kind of thing, but a few years later Disney seems to think the floodgates are open.

So it seems pretty clear why Disney must be banning this episode of Bluey, and yet...they seem a bit inconsistent?

This episode will teach kids all the wrong lessons about breech birth!

Given the heat that disney has been getting from the people who have a seizure over "wokeness" i absolutely see why disney didn't air that in the US.

side note: Dad is a role model for what I wanted to be as a father.

Before the birthing part started I thought it might be the mother rolling her magazine up to hit the father with if he said something annoying, and then doing it...

I expected this to be the one where the father farted (sorry, did a fluffy) but apparently that's been un-banned?

Disney is fairly predictable on what they cut for Disney+. Seeing the original ABC version of Relax when Bandit says “alright dingleberries, let the holiday begin” upon pulling up to the vacation condo, it’s no shock that it became “super troopers” later on.

Ever curious about the fights I had with the censors on Gravity Falls? I probably shouldn't share this buttttt here are some REAL NOTES from DISNEY S&P and my REAL REPLIES.

The neighbor dad asking for cricket updates during “delivery” and also the “baby” crawling back up and refusing to be born was so cute. Why are we so uptight we can’t have this.

1970s AH that link is hilarious. Especially the hoo-ha correction.

Thank you, Disney corporation, for helping shield my children from the perversions of cricket. That's one "boundary" I'm glad they're not pushing!

Oooh my 2 year old grandbaby and I are going to be watching this tonight! We love Bluey and a new episode, that features babies? What a treat! Thank you!

Disney allowed the LGBT+ content in Owl House, but cancelled the show. Sort of like they could never quite decide whether they were going to stand up against the Don't Say Gay stuff in Florida or not. Disney is very concerned about trying to walk the line of not offending queer people too much but also not offending people who are offended by queer people too much. They are corporate fuckers at heart.

i am so going to hell for linking this - but so is the late show

i thought the dad baby cartoon was hilarious

Big Bluey fan and this helps explain why I'm always so confused about episode numbers when I see Bluey episode rankings/lists/etc that are probably coming from Australia.

Just watched the episode (never seen Bluey before) and it was legit SUPER CUTE and AWESOME. Verrrry Ozzie, though, I could understand maybe half of what they were saying.

For those who are wondering, the song Lucky's Dad is singing is True Blue by John Williamson, the unofficial team anthem for the Aussie national cricket team and was also performed acoustically at Steve Irwin's funeral.

We have started watching Bluey as a palate cleanser after Fallout.

That was adorable and Disney is idiotic.

In other episodes too, the girls regularly address him as "Lucky's Dad." I admire how game he is, but my favorite character is Muffin. (From the FPP list, Faceytime, Pizza Girls, and Sleepover. Library is also great.) I feel some relief seeing a kid less in control of herself than Bluey & Bingo are.

That's a very charitable take but I'll go with it for this thread.

I freaking love this episode. Both my girls were born at home and we don’t play prissy about childbirth. My 5 year old immediately wanted to play Dad Baby - sweetest thing ever!

That was hilariously bonkers. Lordy, I love Bluey.

Yeah, I’m thinking Disney has a pretty good grasp on just how detached from reality and super-reactionary a particular segment of the US population is, and just decided to not even chance it. I mean, a man carrying a baby? A relatively-basically-accurate-for-a-kid’s-cartoon depiction of a live birth? I can just hear the vitriol and calls for boycott, sadly.

There’s probably another segment of the population who would take great offense to a man making jest of pregnancy, or of depicting pregnancy for laughs. Delivery depicted as slapstick? “Go in through the sunroof?” People are just too damned serious here.

And, by “here” I mean “the US.”

I was excited for them to go through the sunroof, but then it never happened.

My wife, who had a C-section, laughed so hard at the sunroof line.

How is this show so wholesome and pitch-perfect in its depiction of kid play logic?

(And why is the theme song so cool?)

I love the little background details they drop in the show that adds depth. For instance, when we first see Pat in his yard, there’s a cricket bat leaning against the fence, and then we get cricket match updates.

Also...I was a bit confused as to why Bandit named BingoBaby Chilli. It’s a little, I dunno, weird? Or maybe I’m just not a sentimental fella?

Well, that's my first introduction to this Bluey show that I've heard about, and ... it's hilarious. Well done.

If you love Muffin, you need to watch the episode Granny Mobile (clip). It’s her tour de force.
