Oddmusic is for anyone interested in unique, unusual, ethnic, or experimental music and instruments, according to the site. The gallery is full of strange instruments - some are beautiful, some are whimsical, and some are just silly. Many have samples to listen to, including the noisy-but-impressive Lego Harpsichord.

I find this instrument absolutely astounding.

There's a group originally from Chicago called MASS Ensemble (stands for Movement and Sonic Sculpture) that created "the worlds largest stringed instrument." They call it the Earth Harp - it was first set up by attaching strings to the front of the Field Museum in Chicago. I went to one of the performances - it's a very unique and haunting sound. (Click on "Earth Harp" on the above linked page to see and hear it, since the site uses frames.)

MASS Ensemble sounds cool- reminds me of the time an artist converted an old dock building in Tacoma into a stringed instrument. I've always regretted missing that performance.

But they're missing my favorite: Ellen Fullman's Long Stringed Instrument.

Virtual instruments are invented by building computer graphics models of objects that would appear to create the sound of the corresponding music synthesizer track.

That's cool. I am all in favor of synesthesia in music. And I think that silly guitar is cool. In a silly way.

"Universe of Bagpipes - A pathway for all who are enchanted by bagpipes"

This would be what, like two people?

I'll stick with a cigarbox solo any day.
