The collections he's building and sharing, and what he's contributing to the society and culture of Qatar in the field of art, natural history, etc. is truly amazing. I love self-taught connoisseurs. You go, Sheikh!

Now if I could just get him interested in Imperial Chinese porcelain...

Unfortunately, this article is too current to be in the online edition of The New York Review of Books. It's not about Sheik Saud, but about the book he's holding in the inset photo on the first link, and about its author.
