The Vision. The Longing. The Confusion. The Claim. One of my favorites from back in the day.

The mystery deepens: alcyone.com is registered to one Erik Max Francis. Considering how impressed he is that he's been on teh intarweb since 1995, I deduced that he must have been a Usenet dork back when AOL users were just starting to ruin the whole thing. I was richly rewarded with a long posting history including the use of "oo" to mean TWO things:

* Infinity
* Object-oriented programming

It seems our boy is a well-enough rounded nerd to opine about pedestrian limits problems for the better part of a decade, while also whinging about PERL's lousy oo.

And let's not forget Big-O Notation, (or "Goatse man notation" as we call it 'round my office).

The question is why we should care.

Darkman - why back in the day we had to walk 6 miles in a driving snow storm to get coal to fire up the commodore 64 to access The Source @ 300 baud and then...

Previously brought to you by (who else?) Settle, who flashed across the face of MeFi for a couple of months in 2002 before being shot down by cruel men without an ounce of mad poetry in their souls.
