Get the word out about Sony

Sony BMG won't be held accountable for its dangerous DRM if music fans don't have an easy way to learn about the flawed software, the settlement, and how to submit claims. By posting a banner on your website or blog, you can help music fans protect themselves and get what they deserve.

I don't think "Settle up with Sony BMG" is the sort of slogan that'll encourage people unaware of the issues to take part.

Anyone who bought a Celine Dion CD already got what they deserved.

The wider issue is the blancmange of intellectual property laws: an out of control patent office, false equation of intellectual property with property, and legislation literally written by the content monopolies.
IMHO, the best way out is to encourage ultra-strict enforcement of all these laws so that more people get pissed off about them. Selective enforcement stinks and chills.

It is ironic how the rootkit fiasco only affected those law abiding citizens who paid for the physical media and not the people it needs to tackle, the ones who just download their media.
The lesson, appears clear. Dont bother buying cds cos it will only get your computer infested with spyware, virii and trojans. So download it to be safe...

Also, a good use of your $7.50 is to ... donate it to the EFF. More people need to support the EFF.

The problem with this settlement is that you have to admit to having bought some of this trash and have restrained yourself from putting it into the microwave before now.

I bought one of their Walkman MP3 Players. The software is absolute shit. Can't even buy stuff from their own wesite let alone Napster or Itunes that don't support it at all. Don't go near it. Just lucky it works with Morpheus. Buy an Ipod...

Don't buy an iPod, buy a Rio Carbon or a Zen Touch or a Neuros II or a Peps iBlue.

I'm not such a huge fan of settlements. It's such a pittance for Sony that it doesn't compensate for their behavior, nor does it deter other companies from pulling the same shit but jsut keeping it better hidden. If individuals committed this crime, they'd be put in jail for years. Instead of this tiny tiny payout on their part, I'd rather see Sony forced to get out of the music business, or destroyed (after they release the PS3, though :-).
Maybe I'm just bitter because I'm not party to the settlement.
