Exactly what I was just looking for. Thanks!

Red Hot Pawn is cool too.

Ace. Chess sites are generally a monumental pain in the arse.

Yes, there's a bunch of us over on RHP.

Latest games sidebar. Just click one to view. Excellent.

I was actually looking at that right now, nthdegx. Is there a way to go through a game step by step? I don't see it.

This is the last thing i need to do at work.
But really, thanks.

It's very well thought out. Actually made me want to play right there and then.

i love this.

does anyone know anywhere in the DC area to buy some nice, weighted chess pieces? i am sick of my crappy chess board.

also, for those not in the know.... chess experiences are greatly improved when you bring a bottle of fine bourbon or scotch to the table.

Needs to do animated play-by-play action.

no no, alcohol is not good for me at the chessboard if I loose I get way too hysterical, crazy in fact.

Anyone want to play a game on 64square.es? I'd get on RedHotPawn, but it's blocked at work.

We've been working on Chesspark for a while, which is not just AJAX chess, but also has a full instant messaging backend (using XMPP).

Awesome, this is the exact same look as the chess game on my mom's old acer.

I dunno about the DC area, kneelconqueso, but this is the set I've been drooling over for a while now. A friend of mine bought one for her boyfriend last year; it's gorgeous.

As for 64squar.es, it looks pretty slick but I can't figure out how to add friends. It's not WEB 2.0 without a way to associate oneself with a group of friends or other social networking capability. I'm signed up as Carson, but I'll probably wait to play there until they've fleshed out the site a little bit. Looks like they're in beta, which seems to indicate that the chess engine is up and running but none of the 'fully featured' bits is implemented.

I've been very much enjoying RedHotPawn however (aside from the frequent ass-whuppings I've been handed by my fellow mefites).

What part of Gameknot.com do you guys not get?

It's so sweet, you'll stop playing chess anywhere else.

Web 2.0 compliant to boot.

I am registered as wolfewolfewolfe on both 64squar.es and redhotpawn. Anytime, anywhere. Except when I'm doing extreme sports...
posted by wolfewarrior at 11:12 PM on July 12, 2007

wolfewarrior- I don't see wolfewolfewolfe on RHP
eater- are you eater on RHP?
both- there are vague plans to have a MeFi tournament on RHP- send felix betachat a message (add to the thread on my link above)

kneelconqueso- You could try US Chess Center, 15th & M NW (haven't been there in a while, though) or wait for the Atlantic Open August 24-26. Someone should be selling sets (and everything else) there.

Also, kneelconqueso- there's always eBay. I highly recommend House of Staunton- excellent quality and service, and you can get a good deal if you're patient.

Why can't anyone make a nice Web 2.0 site for web Go? The Dragon Go Server is nice and all, but I think could be so much better.

(Anyone want to play a game of go? Send me an email).

MtDewd - i am on rhp... wanna play?

Really great!

Nice site. As others mentioned, a lot of the features are missing currently, but they're slowly adding stuff. I'm on RHP as joshteeters and 64squar.es as Dieters, if anyone wants to kick my arse.
