Sweet Adelines

Pride of Toledo - 2004 Contest Pictures of barbershop harmony female singers from Lake Erie Region 17, encompassing parts of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. (All are part of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women singers, which was mentioned before)
I would put big money on the speculation that at least half of these women drive Chevy Malibus.

And the other half drive Ford Aerostars.

My wife does women's barbershop, but not with Sweet Adelines.
The scene is really nice, if you're into it. Lots of women singing to each other and smiling, buying up three floors of a hotel so they can sing until 4 a.m. without waking the other hotel guests...

They share a love of singing, they're pretty much all smiling, and some of them are dang cute.

My city used to have a chapter. They popped up on local television all the times, usually between Saturday morning cartoons.

My mom should be in those pics (we killed the site), and she used to drive a BMW 2002 tii stick shift, bought within months of BMW entering the states.
She's never had a Malibu or any kind of minivan.
They are a seriously nice bunch of ladies. Well worth going to see their competitions, even if, like me, you'd rather gouge out your eyes with a rusty spoon than listen to barbershop.

My dad's done barbershop forever, and my mom tried Sweet Adelines for a bit. It made her depressed and angry, due to the uniformity of song and performance. Also, I have to say that the barbershop style works a LOT better for all men's voices than all women's voices (larger contrast in pitch). So, yeah, not for everyone.
