An almost completely black page? Who cares what it's about when you have to view source to read it?

Well, Elfwood [google cache] is this tremendously vast repository of contributed fantasy art. From that and the stuff on the "Elfwood Review Board" pages it appears there was some disruption, probably starting with flamewars and leading to some security infractions. Looks like they shut down in desperation, but have now heeded the community call to remain in operation with changes. (Kuro5hin did the same thing last year for a few weeks.)

looks to me like a community of fantasy-art lovers/creators. it would appear that the owner of the site closed it down after someone made a death threat, and has decided to re-open with a new rule in place that no one is allowed to make death threats. - rcb

this brings up an interesting point, considering how this person dealt with a death threat. it may be a side thread [if so, apologies in advance], but we've got plenty of people on metafilter that run their own [popular] sites... how do ya'll deal with the odd/bizarre/threatening messages you receive?

It's a sign of being [popular] - getting death threats. Comes with the territory. The worst that ever happened to me was people calling me dirty names, so I never achieved any level of popularity, even when I was at the height of my [success]. But it's all good. No one ever stops me on the street and asks for my autograph either, so I weathered fame and can now retire into obscurity happily.

It's not all black in all browsers. Just poorly coded for some, I guess. Works in iCab and Navigator 4.76 Mac, but not in MSIE 5.0 Mac.
