I hope they look better in win/mac ie than they do in unix ns (which they probably do), or else I'm really missing the point.

that fire one is pretty cool though.

Hmm.. I guess not that many participated, I was kinda expecting more, I guess it's over that 'no non-us entries' argument. Didn't a lot of the ex-pyra staff object to all of this anyway?

I was kind of surprised by how little graphics work went into most of the selected winners. I guess Ev's more into the color combinations. I like interblued and the stone angels graphic is good, too.

heh, "Sugar Ranch" looks a bit familiar.

*cough* zeldman's webstandards.org *cough*

I was rooting for Eric Costello's Techniqz. Glad it won :)

I didn't win. Looking at the contest winners, I'll guess I wasn't colourful enough. If anyone wants my non-winning template, it can be found here.

And yes, this is selfish self promotion. I'd much rather have people use stuff I freely release than rip apart a design I've done and build a template out of it, which has happened before.

Very nice work all the way around. I was pleasantly surprised to see the name of Mirla Criste, though I'm not sure why because her design eye has been entertaining/inspiring/awestriking me for years.

Eric Costello is just amazing.

It certainly is a great way to get some great work done for your company for not that much money! Some of them look really nice.

Hey Dreama, thanks for the Mirla.net link. I read her site faithfully years ago, but I thought she stopped updating it when she moved across the country, and it sort of dropped off my mental bookmark list. Nice to find out that she's back.

I'll probably come off as cynical but... uh... I don't get it. Most of these templates are 'ok', none of them are 'wow!'. I see dozens of better looking blogs while surfing around the net every single day. These are just... color schemes. (I realize that the last sentence is a generalization - but it's the feeling I'm getting when I looked at the winners.)

Am I missing something here?

Is anyone else getting that "Hey, I could have won this contest" feeling. Not that I don't like the winners, it's just that I wish I had entered.
