Was anyone else not terribly impressed by the skill of either dancer? Or do I just not know how to appreciate dancing?

I had the same response. Spent the first few minutes hoping that the ballerina would crank out some crazy moves. Spent the rest of the time trying to figure out if it was a spoof. Still confused.

I'm not sure if this is serious or the most awesome bait job ever.

Am I not getting the joke, or is the joke just not super funny? The street dancer and the ballerinas actually both suck, is that all there is to it? Also, the background ballerinas are pretty clearly not actual ballerinas - when they're doing what are supposed to be basic but legit ballerina moves or whatever they are doing it epically wrong, but not necessarily in ways that someone clueless about ballet would notice. Is that supposed to be funny too?

I liked it. It was cute and the song was catchy too. I totally forgot about Groove Armada's existence.

Seriously, the dancers' footwork and balance were terrible. Every time someone lifted one foot off the floor she wobbled like Cobb's totem. What I saw in this video was a lot of posturing and very little actual dancing... and I realized that had to be the punchline when the "street dancer" started doing the Macarena. It's not supposed to be a dance-off, it's a parody of dance-offs, and for that I have to give it some respect.

I'm not sure what to make of the fact that a number of people here seem to have taken it at face value. There's enough good dancing to watch out there in pop culture that the joke here should be immediately obvious.

Life is too short to watch bad dancing or non-amusing satire. Some really lousy links being posted on MeFi today.

Yeah, put me down in the "whuh?" column. It's a decent enough middle-of-the-road dance track, and the video starts out promising—but I spent half the video looking for the joke, and by the time I realized that the bad dancing is all there is to the joke, I didn't care any more.

Yes. In fact, and I hope I'm not hurting anyone's feelings when I admit this, I would say their skills were laughably bad. And, since I'm going for honesty here, I myself reaped a better-than-average laugh from it.

You have actually seen people dancing before, though? Right?

OK, now I pine for a good street vs ballerina dance-off. Anyone know of one?
