Replace Blood on the Tracks with the better versions of the Blood on the Tracks tracks from the Bootleg Series.

Replace everything after Blood on the Tracks except for Infidels and Oh Mercy (and parts of Good As I Been to You) with the 26-disc 1966 boot Jewels and Binoculars.

Oh screw it, just listen... [more]

So gorgeous. So remote! How does one respond to such images except to sigh... and maybe set a new wallpaper.

Speaking of sighing... when I was a kid we used to have this little two-person meme that went something like:

"Where do you live?" "In my house"
"Where's your house?" "In New Delhi."
"Where's New Delhi?" "In India."
"Where's India?"... [more]

I met Tuli at a Zappa concert on St. Marks in December of 1966. I was a 16 year old street kid on the Lower East Side, a baby beatnik slum goddess from the L E S. He was incredibly kind and generous and funny. He gave me a place to stay, fed me, gave me books to read. He listened to me, unlike most men I knew then, and we had serious intellectual conversations. I lost touch with him after I moved away from the city, now I wish I hadn't.

I hope this post doesn't just bring attention to the interesting politics and testing methodology in the article, but also to the importance of wearing a helmet all the time whilst riding a motorbike, bicycle, scooter, or anything else at any age, that might result in head trauma.

It's late. I'm tired, and I won't go into how helmets save lives, how much they might cost society in terms of social and medical expenditures, or any studies. I'm not going to talk about how... [more]

I don't see that as either ingenuity or decline, but rather more economic flattening (in the Thomas Friedman "The World is Flat" sense). I've been involved on the "buy" side of a couple of IT outsourcing deals in the U.S. At this point, all of the big U.S. service providers on the "sell" side of IT outsourcing have moved some of their operations overseas. At the same time, the big Indian providers have found that certain industry segments just won't go overseas... [more]

When I saw the wedding photo, my first thought was that it was a photo of Jennifer Coolidge from some new Christopher Guest movie.

I don't think so faze. Sarah Silverman was funny maybe once, what, 10 years ago. What little I saw of her final season on comedy central was so bad I would call it "retroactively bad" in that it makes you hate everything she had ever done before.

Apart from all that fantastic music and the atmosphere: I highly recommend this movie as a fashion reference. Especially the crowd scenes. If the fashion industry had stopped here, I wouldn't mind. It's more Seinfeld's Kramer than it is Mad Men and it's oozing funk, soul, jazz and a blessed life in general.

I also suspect that the sub-set of Mefites who (want to) dress like this is rather substantial. Young hipsters and old cats alike. Or am I wrong here?

It was a simpler time, when all it took to amuse people was a bearded man smoking a cigar and rollerskating while displaying a white handprint on the seat of his trousers. Nowadays, it would take a CGI bearded man smoking a cigar and rollerskating while displaying a white handprint on the seat of his trousers in 3D to get the same effect. Perhaps an IMAX would be involved.

I can't stand the new themes.

They're just too artificially epic sounding, as if someone analyzed songs that are considered intense and programmed the instrumentation to sound like an idealized version of "the epic song" version of the theme. Plus the crashing sound effects when the Tardis hits the wall of the time tunnel thing are just distracting and cheesy.

Carrying babies, in turn, made mothers of infants dependent on others to gather and hunt food for them, which led to strong communities. Our big... [more]

Filmmakers faced a major challenge when they wanted to cast Black actors in mainstream motion pictures prior to the 1960s.
