An underrated part of Oglaf is the…. I guess you’d call it marginalia, at the top of the strip, next to that instalment’s title. They are usually unrelated to the theme of the strip and tend towards the Steven Wright/Mitch Hedberg style of one-liner or occasionally koans. Some of my faves over the years:

Sport is the first Oglaf strip I ever saw, and then I had to read the whole thing from the beginning, and I still check each Sunday for the weekly update.

It might not be the best, but it's my favorite.

I was also wondering about rebuilding the space elevator. In my world, the original would have probably been a basic version that was built and then patched and improved over the years. Yeah, this was the funniest episode of the season for me.

Watching Matthew Broderick getting deep into the process to develop the Constable character was so fun, and the cherry on top was that I felt like Oliver deserved every moment of it, including the part where Mel Brooks tells him he fucked up.

Wow, this sure sounds like some of the sneaky shit that DC did with/to Alan Moore, both in the eighties when he did the bulk of his work with them (Watchmen etc.) and in the late nineties/early aughts when they bought Jim Lee's WildStorm, which included Moore's America's Best Comics titles. This is confirmation that it wasn't just the Weirdo Wizard of Northampton that was treated this way.

After we watched this episode my partner and I went to a zoning and development town hearing where the facilitator was not audible. People in the crowd told her to talk into the mic, she said she was talking into the mic, it went on and on. It was amazing how precisely it matched the episode. We were awestruck.

The thing that really boggles my mind is that the data centre owners spent (probably) millions on securing the facility against any and all possible incursions but, in the end, every single measure was subverted because someone was talked into letting a total stranger walk into the secure facility and start unplugging things. At every level, people are always the weakest link and can't be trusted.

This stunt certainly ruined a lot of holidays for Twitter staff -- the Musk goons only moved a *fraction* of the servers to the new location, and this is certainly not a failure mode the system architects had in mind. "Hard-coded references to Sacramento" probably means there are clusters that expect their nodes not to be on a local network and not suddenly hundreds of miles away.

A company I worked for had a client who did exactly this and learned the hard way that when you crash a U-Haul the supplemental insurance doesn't come close to covering the millions of dollars of servers that got wrecked in the accident.

The observation that Isaacson should be making about this episode is that the git'er-done approach is less about moving the servers and shutting down the Sacramento operation, than it is about the feeling of control it gave Musk. It fed a manic high.
