Getting a bit older and getting along with Underworld and Iggy Pop

While overseeing the soundtrack for T2 Trainspotting, Underworld’s Rick Smith arranged a meeting with Iggy Pop in a room at The Savoy Hotel on London’s Strand to discuss working on collaborative music for the film. Their respective tracks "Lust for Life" and "Born Slippy (Nuxx)" had perfectly bookended the first Trainspotting film two decades previously. On arrival, Iggy found a fully working studio set up and eagerness to get cracking. The results are all out now: Teatime Dub Encounters EP ("Bells & Circles" | "Trapped" | "I'll See Big" | "Get Your Shirt")

You're not going crazy, Arthur, you're going sane in a crazy world!

In 1986, 18-year-old cartoonist Ben Edlund created The Tick as a mock-hero mascot for a newsletter for New England Comics, where he was a customer. A few pages of The Tick were included in the New England Comics Newsletter in '86, and two years later, NEC published the first of the black-and-white comic book series, featuring wacky superheroes and bizarre super villains. From there, The Tick and his compatriots has been in a three-season cartoon series on Fox Kids, a live-action series on Fox in 2001, and again as live-action in an Amazon exclusive production. One of the many things that makes The Tick’s situation unique is that Edlund has been centrally involved with every version since the ’80s, including the most recent live-action series.

as far as I’m aware, I’m really the only one trying

Allow me to summarize. In less than two years from the time of this article, hundreds of thousands of games are likely to disappear from the internet, forever. Simply no longer playable. Hundreds of millions of views, likes, 5-star reviews, 1-star reviews…all gone. The companies who helped bring these games to life don’t seem concerned. The people who made these games aren’t exactly talking about it, to my knowledge.
That's because Ben Latimore is talking about saving Flash video games once Adobe's support for it expires in 2020.

How to record a webpage?

I enjoy listening to http://listen.hatnote.com/ as background music. The page will not play on my work internet, probably because of some background javascript or something. I would like to record this webpage for a long chunk at home (5-8 hours) and upload to youtube. Can you please advise me a simple workflow with a single, free tool to record the screen and audio from Hatnote? I've uploaded youtubes before, but any advice about uploading a multiple-hour video to youtube would also be appreciated.

Hannah Gadsby "Breaks" Comedy

"There is nothing stronger than a broken woman who has rebuilt herself," Australian comic Hannah Gadsby says in her new Netflix special. Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette Will Change The Way You Think About Comedy, says Anna Silman in The Cut, which has MANY SPOILERS. (CW for sexual abuse, rape, assault in Netflix special.) "...Perhaps the power of her performance will open the door for a richer and more humane kind of stand-up – one that sets an example for future young women deciding how they want to tell their stories to the world."

Hannah Gadsby's Netflix special seems like it's going to be a stand-up comedy routine but ends up being a meditation on, among other things, the limitations of comedy. Currently being discussed on the blue here. This one needs a content warning for discussions of misogyny and homophobic violence, both emotional and physical.

The Glue Famine

"It was December 18th, 2016 when we noticed that all the glue was gone and we had no clue why. So when the cavernous shelf was filled, only to be emptied again immediately, we began to speculate. Something as simple as Elmer’s Glue, although a little oddball, did not seem an unlikely victim for whatever might have been caught in the crosshairs of a Pinterest trend. We’d survive- whatever it was. I was in no way prepared for the reality. "

Optimistic nihilism

To live meaningfully in a meaningless universe, you must first make your own meaning. Existential nihilism , the philosophy that life has no intrinsic meaning or value. Optimistic nihilism, the view that, once one accepts that life lacks any intrinsic meaning or value, one can find joy and contentment by attributing their own sense of meaning or value to existence.
