Ana Ng (acoustic)
This is an acoustic cover of the wonderful TMBG song Ana Ng, done on a four track recorder many years ago.
Though I did once see "I don't want the world, I just want your half" painted on a bridge (it was really surprising and cool to discover), we substituted "Homies '88" in its place because we had recently seen that on a bridge and thought it a bit absurd that someone took the time and effort to paint such a doofy message.
random funky
This is less of a song and more of a sketch, but I found it on my drive and I'm going to post it. Much less developed than my other submission. It's more of a half-assed experiment with drum signatures and reverb with some granulation synth stuff tied into the reverb and echoes. Expect little, but it's pretty hypnotic.
a moment
An simple instrumental piece I've been meaning to finish up since 2003. MeFi music inspired me to get it done tonight. Enjoy.

Circadia
Another symphonic-electronica piece I made when I was sixteen. Terrifically upbeat compared to almost everything I write these days. Reaches critical mass with the help of the trusty ol' 303.
Monsoon
Something sweet and mellow to watch the rain by. Hot off the press.
Luna Iridia
Something mellow and electronic. Soft synths. Sleep music.
Scooby Doo
Surreal, ridiculous improvised mouth noise collage I made with my little brother several years ago. Inspired to post this by this Eideteker track.
Ocean
"Ocean" is an instrumental track from my recording project, James, Not Jim. It's a smooth, melodic, jazz/fusion piece that features electric bass guitar. Some more extensive recording/performance notes are here. Hope you like it. If you do, there are two more tracks over at myspace.com/wheatdesign.
Worse Than Pop - We Can Clone Knight Rider Fans, We Have the Techno
I am a lonely man, with only Audacity for company.
This is my first attempt at a multitrack recording. I don't have a real microphone, so it's really lo-fi. I also apparently have no clue how to master, so the levels will scare you. I welcome suggestions, death threats, etc.

Pachelbel's Canon
A rock version of the old chestnut, as performed by Edmonton's Baffin Island Party. Gets pretty fast toward the end.
Bone Music
Is it melodic? Is it percussive? Is it industrial? Is it ambient? It is a mystery! A noise-filled mystery.

Mamonaku
This is a song by my band, Institut Polaire.
I Miss You
Another mic in track track, built around an audio love letter sent to some girl named Holly. You can hear the original letter (done in two takes) at the above link. Look for "I Love You Holly"; it's about two-thirds the way down the list.
Think of Me
This is the opening song from my Comfort Stand EP, "mic in track," consisting of songs created from anonymous personal recordings that were (unwittingly) shared on p2p networks. You can hear many more examples on my homepage.
I used FruityLoops (FL Studio) to make the music, GoldWave to make the samples, and AudioGnome (primarily) to find the original mic in tracks.
we all have disguises (live edit)
This is a song that was done live on 6/26/2006 at an afterparty here in detroit. the venue was stucco's warehouse. Listen as my audio buffer dies at the end. A proper version will probably come out someday.

Fred Clark posts at a blog called "Slacktivist", so he is often referred to by that name. But this left-wing Christian is far from a slacker. His blog is a powerful voice against the usual conservative Christian presence in America, and the best distillation of his strength is his series of posts analyzing the Left Behind novels of Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Fred savages these books for their "bad writing and bad theology" but it's not the usual Internet snark; Fred has a larger mission here than just pointing and laughing. He just finished dissecting book two, Tribulation Force, so it's a great time to jump on if you already haven't. (He has promised that after a holiday break, he's going to do the Tribulation Force movie, and then on to book three.)

Thanks for all the Music
Let's hear it for MetaFilter Music: 5,000+ posts and going strong. I love all of you, from the fine musicians to the devoted commenters and playlisters, to the mods who coded and managed it, to the thousands* of record label execs who've found their next pop star lurking in the shadows here. Here's to another 5,000 posts, then another 5,000, then after that we can re-evaluate. Sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who's ever contributed, commented, made a playlist, listened to a tune, or even planned to and hasn't gotten around to it.

An overload of Mystery Science Theater musical moments
During the show's history Mystery Science Theater did many musical bits. Topless Robot recently linked to the "13 best" Mystery Science Theater 3000 songs. It's not a bad list, although there are some notable exclusions. About those, click through....
Connections
James Burke's popular television show Connections is available in its entirety online. Connections, which ran in 1978, was a unique take on the question of historical and scientific advancement. From wikipedia: "The series traced paths of invention and discovery through their interrelationships in history, with each episode chronicling a particular path, usually in chronological order. ... It was followed by the 20-part Connections2 (1994) and then the 10-part Connections3 (1997) series. Later, it was shown in more than 50 countries and appeared in about 350 university and college curricula. Additionally, the book that followed the series was also a best seller."

Neverlasting love songs?
"God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys has the best opening line to a love song: I may not always love you. Can you think of any other love songs that have the same vibe of: "I really hope this lasts, but I can't make or ask for promises."

Arcade Fire devise 'synchronised artwork' for The Suburbs.
Montreal band develop album art in the digital age, providing bonus material to accompany the download of their latest LP. "The idea is simple... Tightly sync a series of images with specific moments in a song using the m4a format. Like some podcasters do, but with micro chapters for each lines of the lyrics. In addition to that, we were able to add good old hyperlinks also synchronised to the song. This gives the possibility for the band to add, at any moments, all kinds of references related to each song. They plan to change and update those links occasionally." says: Vincent Morisset, director of Arcade Fire's Miroir Noir live DVD

Teach me to meet my desires with some grace...
Interpol have a new, self-titled album coming out September 7 (the 13th in the UK). Hey, guess what! It sounds like Interpol, so this is the kind of thing you will like, if you like this kind of thing. "Lights" (and here in HD) already has me imagining doing a thousand-yard stare out of a bus window on a cold, late November night.

Time Vacuum (or Productivity Fail) Web Sites
I'm putting together a list of some of my favourite time-vacuum websites. What I mean by that is a website that you can visit and then lose half your day to, by the sheer amount of great stuff to read, watch, play, listen to, learn, etc etc.
They could be news pages, or a site where there is always something new to see, or maybe just a database that you can lose hours mining for interesting information.
I'm sure we all have stuff like this in our bookmarks, so I'm turning to the hive mind for help to expand my list of really interesting sites.
