Seems like a good thread to drop this: Channel1 is launching an entirely AI driven news ecosystem in 2024. They're using AI generated anchors with real news footage, and planning on "generating AI imagery to support stories where images don't exist." It’s linked in the middle of the article, but I want to put an extra plug in for Gavin’s podcast series about living with a loved one with dementia: Let’s Not Be Kidding. He paints a lovely picture of his mom without glossing over the hard stuff. It’s poignant but also funny. He has great guests like Scott Thompson from Kids in the Hall and the musician Jann Arden, who talk about their own parents’ dementia journeys.

If you count the number of times the small gear reference point touches the other gear, you get N rotations. It clicked for me when I noticed that's this is just like the difference between a solar day and a sidereal day.

How many times does the earth rotate in one year? It's not 365 times... it's 366 times.

Very similar situation here, though with a different language.

I noticed the spelling problem when I was homeschooling during the first lockdown. I bought a few workbooks aimed at the 'supplementary homework' market such as Vorderman's Spelling Made Easy titles and went through with the kids, doing just a page a day or every other day. Even Mad Max: Fury Road, rightfully known for its spectacular practical stunts, has plenty of CGI.

Notably, they used CGI to make the vehicles wheels look like they were turning faster, making the stunts look more dangerous since they appear on screen to be moving much faster than they were. That, in my estimation, was an amaing use of CGI.

Patagonia’s hemp work pants last YEARS longer than carhartt or similar canvas pant brand. They also contain no plastic. I wear two pairs in rotation, 6 days a week. I’m on year two with one pair, year three with the other. They cost $90. This amortizes to what, $3.75 and $2.50 a month. This is a pretty good deal.

Longevity counts in cost calculations, especially if you slow your fashion cycle down.

Oh wow, here's an apparently really rare 30 minute documentary from 1992 showing her working on a piece for the Glasgow International Jazz Festival. It's got really dynamic music sections and really interesting interview segments.
