GE pledges $10 million to a fund that will assist the families of the firefighters, police officers and emergency rescue personnel who perished while responding to the attack on the World Trade Center. Cisco Systems has made gifts to key relief and support organizations serving the New York City and Washington D.C. areas, including a $6 million donation. Microsoft is making a donation of $10 million in cash and technical services. Know of any other companies that are doing something similar?

Bruce Springsteen didn't win the rights to BruceSpringsteen.com, because 2 out of 3 arbitrators decided that The Boss has no right to the domain name. Which is quite surprising considering most other celebs have won the rights to theirs. [ via Signal vs. Noise]

Britain's Millennium Dome didn't even stay open for a full year. The $1.2 billion Dome was shut down today at 6:00 PM GMT. An Irish company plans to provide luxury housing on the site, and make the building into a high tech buisness center.

Customization of a page was never easier. Mark Newhouse of iBook, iMac, iBlog, has come up with this really cool way of skinning the blog using CSS via a nifty adaptation of a script by Porter Glendinng. Now if we could mix this concept with Jason's modification via cookies, you'd get a skinnable site rather than a skinnable page using just CSS and Javascript. [Found the site via Zeldman]

I'm just one in a billion!

With the birth of a baby girl named Asha - 'Faith' in Hindi - India's population officially hit 1 billion today, an event marked with fanfare and concern over the nation's too-rapid growth. Astha was born to Anjana and Ashok Arora at 5:05 a.m. this morning, putting India in an exclusive club with China as the only nations with populations exceeding 1 billion.

Now if any country messes with us, all we have to do is jump at the same time to wipe out the enemy. :)
