Rejoice! Bradford Cox (of Atlas Sound) has released not one, but four albums for free download.

These were all actually released months ago, though, right? According to his blog?

Yes, but they haven't been linked here, a lot of people on here probably don't know about them, and they're good.

Yeah, this is really old. Sony even had them taken down at one point, then recanted because they had no rights to it.

That said, this hasn't yet been posted here.

An album that was released 3 months ago is not "really old" unless you're at this very moment working in a hallucinatory record store and your job is to yell at dumb squares.

I think it's that there's been three months to make a better post.

So, you guys knew all about this, but didn't tell the rest of us for three whole months?

Cox's other band, Deerhunter, is probably somewhat better known than Atlas Sound. Or at least I thought until reading this post, and now I'm entirely unsure. It's very difficult to extrapolate fame from a collection of posts on internet sites.

I read about these as they were coming out, but somehow never bothered to download them. Thanks for the reminder!

It's weird to me just how successful the Bradford Cox/Deerhunter/Atlas Sound/others I'm sure group has become.

Just before Cryptograms came out my friend and I hired Deerhunter to play a frat party for $200 + 12 pack of Budweiser Select. Bradford seemed like a nice guy, though he didn't seem too excited when my friend, a guitarist, wanted to play with him. Cox obliged by setting off a loop that went for about 35 minutes consisting of some tapping on a microphone, about 3 seconds of my friends guitar sound, and Bradford saying "Jacking off Chuck Berry."

The only other thing I remember is a girl at the party telling the band that if they would just play some Foo Fighters covers that she would flash them.

Suffice it to say, I'm pretty sure no one enjoyed that party too much.

Remember people. Metafilter isn't a news site. It's a collective blog for finding the best of the web, whether old or new.

Thanks for posting these.
