That's nothing. In high school, the announcer once played the entirety of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music over the intercom after a particularly impressive touchdown.
Funny, I was just watching Al Jazeera and the announcer segued from a story about Shakespeare to sport by delivering the following quote (with only slightly less glee than the lacrosse announcer): "As flies to wanton boys, are we to the gods, — They kill us for their sport."
That was really funny. Glad I watched it before reading the comments. posted by bleep at 12:06 PM on June 26, 2011 [4 favorites]
Less funny when you know he had been planning that for a while, and that he probably put the video up on youtube himself. posted by TheRedArmy at 12:13 PM on June 26, 2011 [1 favorite]
Unless this is a canard, the prime purchasers of hip-hop CDs after the 1980s are and have been middle-class, suburban teenage boys. posted by griphus at 2:14 PM on June 26, 2011

Some announcers quote rappers and others become rappers.
On the flipside, Chuck D of Public Enemy has gone on record as saying Marv Albert was the main influence for his rap voice. posted by ShutterBun at 6:59 PM on June 26, 2011 [1 favorite]
Don't break your backs trying to dislike this. It's not worth it. Here's a tip: not everyone is trying to be "edgy." posted by basicchannel at 9:06 PM on June 26, 2011
Also, I think he was trying to be "silly" not "edgy." posted by basicchannel at 9:07 PM on June 26, 2011 [1 favorite]
I find it hard to believe that this guy ever read Word Up magazine. posted by doublehappy at 9:48 PM on June 26, 2011 [2 favorites]
Not blaming the announcer, who's clearly trying to be silly. I just don't find this post very interesting. posted by oog at 12:36 AM on June 27, 2011 [1 favorite]
not cricket but LACROSSE?!?!? isnt that like the whitest of sports ever?
It is kind of weird how it ended up as the sport of prep school WASPs despite being practically the only well known team sport that wasn't invented by Europeans or descended from one that was. posted by atrazine at 4:36 AM on June 27, 2011
