You can find shadow cloaks in the lucky cat boxes or in the store (which is also denoted by a lucky cat icon).

You have one automatically, but you use them when you hit the space bar.

Heads up: If you click the little cat in the lower left after you die, you can buy upgrades with the coins you collect as you go. The upgrade screen explains what the lightning and the fire scrolls do.
