Ryan Hansen celebrates his return to the Veronica Mars cast with a very silly video. I LOLed. Previously.

Also confirmed for the Movie are Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), Francis Capra (Weevil), Tina Marjorino (Mac), Chris Lowell (Piz), Krysten Ritter (Gia Goodman), Amanda Noret (Madison Sinclair), Daran Norris (Cliff McCormack), Sam Huntington (Luke Haldeman), Jonathan Chesner (Corny), and Kevin Sheridan (Sean Friedrich)....so far.

Basically the only people they're missing at this point are Ken Marino as Vinnie Van Lowe, Max Greenfield as Leo (fat chance on that one) and Harry Hamlin as Aaron Echolls. It'll be kinda weird to follow up the events of season 3 without Vinnie, but that is a packed speaking cast as it is. No need for more cameos.

Just think how many more cameos they could work into it if it was a zombie movie!

This is just like that Clair Huxtable dream I keep having.

I have never seen this show, but I think I might watch that video 3 more times.

Max Greenfield as Leo

He's on board, according to this.

But they need him, so they can have him go undercover as team leader of a catering company and somehow Dick Casablancas gets wrangled into it too...

When I heard they'd cast Piz I offered to double my contribution if his body was found in the first scene but they wouldn't go for it. Probably just as well if the first series is anything to go by, given that Lily's dead through the whole thing and still has more scenes than all but about three of the characters.

Also, Adam Scott should reprise his role as the disgraced history teacher, just so we can see that fingersnappy thing again.

Ryan Hansen brings a special shot of genius to everything he graces with his loony presence. Burning Love was awesome before he was on it but it was The Awesomest Thing On The Internet when he was included. He is actually the hook that got me caught on Veronica Mars in the first place. Dick! Dick! Dick!

No Vinnie (yet). I'm so disappointed. I don't care about Gia or Madison or Corny or Sean at all. I assume Parker also won't be reappearing. I am not sure about Troy or Duncan, but I also figure they won't be back. (And don't care.)

I briefly confused Deputy Sacks with Deputy Leo and was even more disappointed when that doesn't work.

What a shame.

I'm sure that they've already written the script, but reading that Max Greenfield is involved but knowing he might not be available because of New Girl commitments, I had the idea that the mystery might involve Deputy Leo's murder.

Because, I'm not sure how other Veronica Mars fans would feel about that, but for me, that would be Immediate Huge Emotional Stakes.

Harry Hamlin as Aaron Echolls
There's a fairly solid, plot-based reason for him not to be involved in the film.

That guy's a Dick.

SO HAPPY love it so much, love everything about this. The guy who plays Mike Chang in Glee is in it (aka the only good thing about Glee aside from Naya Rivera) and this is perfection.

Complete sentences? Later. Too excited.

Welp, I guess it's time to do a preparatory re-watch. Thanks for the reminder Ryan.

The Whelk

To: His Little Brother

Message:

Hey bro, I know we don't really talk much cause you're like, waaay on the other side of the country and like soooo much younger than me and taller and more-nevermind. But the thing is. I'm writing to tell you your position has been replaced.

Yeah no I'm as shocked as you are, but it turns there was a clerical error and Ryan Hanson was supposed to my youngest sibling. I know, super funny. What a world we live in eh? Just crazy

Like you can stay at Mom's place and stuff and no, "Mr. Hanson" doesn't like *know* yet or *will go quietly* but I'm ceding all your younger sibling duties and responsibilities to him, just FYI. I'm like, 80% sure this is a binding contract to that effect.

Great!

See you in court,

-TW

I confess the only place I've known Ryan Hanson from was Veronica Mars, and I hated Dick because he was such a...dick. But his videos related to the movie have made me really like him, and I want to seek out other things he's done (I avoided Party Down because I have huge embarrassment squick issues and it seemed like maybe another comedy show based on humiliation and cringe humor, but maybe I'm wrong?).

Love his jump, very impressive, and his dance with KB is awesome.

I've never seen a bit of Veronica Mars (only partly because that was when I had no TV) and only just started catching up with Party Down (big Adam Scott fan due to P&R, plus the opening sequence remakes), which it turns out is very relevant to my interests, so I'm definitely on board with this down the road. Especially if it has more Enrico Colantoni.

I knew Dick would be in it, since he's a fan favorite, but I still hate that he was added to the main cast at all. It's still not really believable to me that Veronica would be willing to spend any social time with him whatsoever after "A Trip to the Dentist," given her normal vengeful behavior.

...maybe I'm not ready for a VM movie just yet.

Dick is back? Well, it's not like Asher Roth is doing much these days...

Ryan Hansen had a part in Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, so I wasn't completely surprised by this, but I still found it delightful.

This video taught me that Ryan Hanson is a surprisingly awesome dancer and that Kristen Bell, not so much.

Isn't the plot some kind of reunion? That would make sense to bring even her enemies back under those circumstances.
posted by jenfullmoon at 10:55 AM on June 15, 2013

Anyway, I loved the Dick Dance. That guy is comedy gold.
posted by jenfullmoon at 11:01 AM on June 15, 2013

Oh Kristin Bell...so not my type, but so amazingly cute/hot...

One of the things I like about VM is that it manages to freaking get something so right: VM is not a girl hero, but just a hero (who happens, y'know, incidentally, to be a girl).

Color me psyched...

Vengeful behavior was mostly why Veronica ever interacted with like half the characters all three seasons. That and investigating stuff for paying customers. She isn't really a people person.

More than anyone, I'm happy for Enrico Colantoni. That guy always seemed to be having more fun than Nathan Fillion in a Joss Whedon production.

Spoiler for, like, all of Season 2 in the following small text. I know, I know, it's been ages since it's been on the air, but maybe this will get some people to watch it?

I was under the impression he only got in the main credits because if Kyle Gallner (Beaver) was in the credits and he wasn't it would spoil the entire season 2 finale.
posted by NoraReed at 2:02 AM on June 16, 2013

No, it's not just the billing - there's a lot of Dick in season 2.
posted by maryr at 10:01 PM on June 18, 2013

And he's kind of amazing in Season 3 as a deflated Dick.
posted by maryr at 10:02 PM on June 18, 2013 [1 favorite]

Whoa, Ryan Hansen is a great dancer! Especially surprising considering I've never seen him in anything but VM so it was nice to know that he is not a Dick in real life. Also, so excited!

I must be alone here in actually liking Piz a whole lot
posted by undue influence at 10:53 PM on June 19, 2013

I actually like Piz too :) He can be funny himself, but he's a great foil for Veronica when he isn't. He's also pretty cute. And a nice break from Logan. Sometimes you need a break from Logan.

But then, if the alternative is Duncan, it's nice to see someone with, you know, an actual personality.
posted by NoraReed at 12:52 PM on June 20, 2013

Eh, Piz is Riley. Far too normal for our badass blond heroine.
posted by maryr at 6:06 PM on June 20, 2013 [1 favorite]

I don't mind Riley either. I really like the episode where he comes back when Buffy's life sucks and he has a badass girlfriend and Willow tries REALLY HARD to be a best friend. I could've done with him on the show for a shorter period of time, but I would've been content with ALL of Buffy's romances being a lot shorter-- I hate Angel and got bored with Spike.

New update: Ken Marino will reprise his role as Vinnie, and just to make sure the movie can really double as a Party Down reunion, Martin Starr is involved as a completely new character.
