How dog are you?

I have no idea what I've just been sold but I know I've been sold it.

Look at the world today! It's amazing!

Yeah. Have you been reading the news? The grand recession of naughty oughties has slowly creeped into the Race-Riot-Ebola-Beheadings-Brink-of-World-War-3 crisis called summer in the amazing world.

Today I'd rather be more cat.

The purported reason that cats are so popular on the Internet is that dog owners go outside. ;)

My cat was too sleepy to comment on this.

My current dog is part cat. She perches. She flicks her tail.

We're working on it.

On one hand, I'm not against posting good advertisements on Metafilter. On the other hand, every major telecom can go die in a fucking fire.

Is that Simon Pegg narrating?

My toes didn't curl, so no, I don't think it's Pegg.

You're right -- it's some guy named Matthew Macfadyen.

I have to ask, how much of the reason for posting this was to act as a eyebleach for spiderdog?

That mall commercial was actually pretty good. Light-hearted fun - especially compared to the fusillade of "medical college" rip-off artists,
payday loan sharks, structured settlement swindlers, and low-down-payment car lot shylocks that pummel viewers
every three minutes or so during the banality of evil that is late morning television.

As for cats masquerading as dogs: accept that they are supernaturally adroit sociopaths, or waste a few dollars at a pet assayer.

This advertisement would be 110% better if they had trained a cat to actually do this stuff rather than taking the lazy route and using cgi. You might even say that using special effects rather than actually doing something is a very cat thing to do.

Oh eemili, you know me too well.

There were a few points that really hit the uncanny valley for me - cat catching the frisbee, and looking out the car window, in particular. Mostly it involved the cat's head - did they composite it over a filmed dog's body or something? (On re-examining: yeah, a dog with shaved legs.)

Also, if you want to see an actual cat being more dog, check the video here.

The videos being referenced in the first half is the Henri: Le Chat Noir series of videos by Will Braden.

It's a composited dog-cat, yeah. Most obvious in its tail when it becomes dog. That ain't no cat tail, and it definitely isn't that cat's tail (which you can see in the fluff when it's cat).

They'd have done better selectively filming a feisty Maine Coon. My own fluffball has cat moments and dog moments, which include fetching balls (he catches them in his paws) and taking showers. If I had a bathtub, I strongly suspect he would swim in it. As it is, he loves the sink.

Anyway. Maine Coons. The dogs of cats.

If you're wondering about the piano music at the beginning, it's the first few measures of Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1.

Kitty Blue?

Cute ad. I did like the Henri-esque opening. Excellent use of Queen! The real cat in this video(previously) is way more dog than their cgi'd kitty, though.

I don't like seeing Henri on whatever drugs they gave him. Being something you're not isn't better than being yourself.
