Bob’s Buskers is an animated web series featuring prominent musicians covering original songs from Bob’s Burgers. Four episodes were made: “Bad Girls” by St. Vincent, “Sailors in your Mouth” and “Christmas Magic” both by the National, and “Electric Love” by Stephin Merritt and Kenny Mellman. Special bonus: the original “Electric Love” and Sleater-Kinney’s ”A New Wave” (featured previously). posted by griphus (27 comments total) 26 users marked this as a favorite

I'm sad to see this didn't last long enough for someone to cover "Its Not Magic, Its Tragic" as the oddball swing/funk combo it so clearly wants to be.

I want to hear "This Is Working" as a dirge-y duet with Nick Cave and PJ Harvey.

Also, "Taffy Butt", the parody of "Goonies 'R' Good Enough" in "The Belchies", was sung by Cyndi Lauper!

Ugh I might just end up having to do a Bob's Burgers music megapost at some point.

This feels like a very elaborate gas lighting because how could I possibly just be learning of this thing based on where I choose to spend time and pay attention to on the Internet now and in 2013.

I know. I've got the same "Why the hell am I only hearing about this now?" feeling.

How long does Bob's have to last on TV for them to make a theatrical-release musical?

"was a short-lived"? "was"? "short-lived"? Who do I have to bribe and/or murder to revive this?

Meanwhile, here's another rendition of "Electric Love", this time featuring Kristen Schaal and John Roderick of The Long Winters.

Well dammit I'm gonna have "Electric Love" in my head for two weeks.

Again.

You know what, I just checked and my timing was off: "Christmas Magic" was Dec. 2014 not 2013, so Bob's Buskers may still be ongoing!

But where is "Pass the cranberry sauce"? That is a legit song that has been sung for many Thanksgivings now at my house.

Mod note: Recalibrated the temporal parameters of the lede, carry on.

The National's "pass the cranberry sauce" Thanksgiving song didn't get full animated Bob's Buskers treatment, it just played over the credits IIRC. But it is indeed great! I've loved The National's stuff for Bob's Burgers: the songs always sound very much like The National songs, and they're sung with total sincerity, which makes them swing perfectly between being hilarious and genuinely great.

Oh, I forgot. I must have blocked it out of my memory because of how deeply depressed it makes me feel and how jarringly incorrect in approach it seems (is).

Has there been a MeFi Music Bob's Burgers Challenge yet?

I'm just saying.

(I break out into Electric Love, Gene's Snake Song or Harry Truman often and at random.)

OMG our office sings the National's version of "Sailors In Your Mouth" ALL THE TIME I had no idea they put out another one!

I always thought that Thanksgiving was about Seamen In Your Mouth.

These are amazing! More I want to see:

Bieber doing Coal Mine/Will You Be Mine.
Danny Elfman as Jack Skellington doing Butts.
Talking Heads (??) doing Silent Love.

I'm still unsure who should be singing Oil Spill.
