Is this an episode co-appearance network?

Ah, it's a consecutive-speaking network.

Is it just me or does it not have zoom functionality?

Great metadata! (data about Data)

It's pretty hard to use on a phone, I can tell you that. But being the Star Trek nerd that I am, I'll find time to look at this on my computer.

I can't believe the charts tab from Excel became an industry.

Also functions as useful STD vector chart of Cmdr Riker as he plows through the galaxy.

It's missing at least a McCoy--Data link.

1) This is gorgeous 2) Yet more data to show Star Trek needs more Garak.

It is strangely satisfying to grab Kirk by the ball and drag him and his horde of connected characters around the screen. I like that feature.

sparklemotion, when I choose a random TOS episode and "Encounter at Farpoint", I get a connection between McCoy and Data. Not quite sure what you think is missing.

When I choose TOS and TNG (the whole series) I see no connection between McCoy and Data.

The edges are filtered depending on how many episodes are included in the visualization. If many episodes are included, then only very strong edges will be shown (i.e., two characters will only be connected if they speak consecutively many times). This is to preserve the readability and performance of the graph.

So the McCoy--Data link is apparently in the, um, data, and you'll see it if you only visualize one or two episodes at a time. But it's a comparatively weak link (based on a small number of consecutive lines), so it's filtered out when you include more episodes.

Jason from Voy episode 11:59 and Jason Vigo from bloodlines got combined, which was confusing.

Oops, sorry, I made small typographical error in that comment let me try again...

Uhhh, actually I think you'll find Jason in the data refers both to Jason Janeway (alive in 2000) and in the Season 5 Voyager Episode 11:59 and also Jason Vigo who wasn't even born until 2347 (NOT 2346, as the Star trek Encyclopedia would have you believe {eyeroll}) thus making this whole project a pathetic sham.
If they can't even get that right then how can I take any of it seriously?

Needless to say I emailed the creators immediately to register my disgust at this.

Guys, guys, you'll be pleased to know that the good people at Star Trek Viz have been in touch and they've fixed the Jason error.

Everything is now perfect.
