Oh my god, I love this. I am not yet listening to the uninterrupted performance, but it's already fantastic.

I love to listen to music at work, and I didn't even think to look at the BBC website, so this opens the door to so much beautiful music!

God, I love that cadenza. Particularly the way it refuses to subside into the orchestra at the close, like a swimmer striving desperately atop mid-ocean waves.

I have that Oistrakh/Ormandy/Philadelphia recording on a Philips 10" record somewhere: I must dig it out later. As a casual classical listener who is sometimes hindered by an ignorance of the nuts & bolts of the music, explanations like the one in the first link can be a great help. Thanks, Wolfdog!
